The PC Build Thread

Anyone looking to go Zen 2 should probably wait a bit, unless they're already running on a B450 board: B550 boards are finally set to land in June, offering PCIe 4.0, so you'll no longer have to shell out extra to for an x570 board that you're not going to fully utilise.

Saw that after I bought a B 450 board but I need the system now, not in 2 months either, so that the breaks ... , happens.

Have you guys seen AMD's newest chips - the low end Ryzen 2 CPUs with 4 cores and 8 threads each?

Its amazing to think that, a few years ago, the Intel 7700K was the baddest CPU out, with 4 cores 8 threads and a base clock speed of 4.3 Ghz. It also cost $350.

Now you can buy something that is probably faster for $120. I think the $120 Ryzen 3300X would beat the 7700K (although I'd be keen on benchmarks to find out).

Very few people have a need for pcie4.

But with the current price gouging, ZARUSD exchange and the COVID-19 increases you might be better off buying your X570 now as those B550's might come in at not much less than the X570's are now... the X570's might take on an even higher price then... maybe...

3300x is looking really good!

So has anyone actually ordered from Wootware, Evetech or Takealot the past week? Are they delivering as scheduled? What is their actual lead time?

Have two orders from Wootware, both have been in Bloemfontein for the last 2 days. Dawn Wing, has yet to deliver them. Guess I will have to wait till Monday - ooops - Monday I believe is a public holiday.

Dawn Wing also does not answer their telephone - too risky in this current situation?

I placed two orders at Wootware and used the FedEx 1 business delivery option. They both arrived the next day. I'm in PTA
