Seriously? Thanks for looking. I've read into this and concensus seems to be that ryzen 5's don't need any additional cooling, correct?
The CPU ships with a decent cooler. However, cases with poor thermals (not enough fans, restricted airflow etc) will cause everything to run hotter. This makes your thermals margins lower, as well as preventing overclocking much before reaching thermal limits.

The cpu and gpu coolers will dump the heat into the case, you need fans in the case to extract that heat out of the case and pull fresh air in else the temps inside the case are just going to rise causing everything else to overheat.

Just stripped down my entire pc, cleaned every single component and rebuilt it with fresh paste. CPU now running 10-15C cooler.

What was it running before? What is the CPU, my 2600 is running at 65 degrees while having the 1600AF is about 55 degrees, but the 1600AF is in an old cm 690 case that has amazing airflow.
My 2600 is in a deep cool tessarect which is a smaller case but the thermals aren't too bad, just smaller.

How dirty was it, you animal? Do you use the case fans to shave fuzzballs off your sweaters?

i5-4690 was running at over 70C while playing CSGO, it's now at 59C.

GPU I always ran with a custom fan profile via msi afterburner so it rarely gets to 65C, I did notice at idle with now fan profile the fan speed ramps up/down a bit. CPU & GPU heatsinks were both clogged with dust.

1yr is all it takes...
I guess, I've done dusting and such on mine recently and there was a bit. Not a lot but more than I thought. The dust filters needed a good cleaning as well.

Damn, going to have to give mine a good clean now. Moving house this weekend anyway, and broadband won't be up for a few days, so no excuse.

Did give my mechanical keyboard a thorough clean the other day, and it's almost back to the state it was when I first bought it.
