The PC Build Thread

So it seems the problem is highlighted in red towards the upper right corner.

I just finished building this one and it looks really great IMHO.
It is the first PC that I have built in about 27 years. I used to be first line IT support for around 60 users so it was my daily job, then I changed direction, discovered Apple and left the PC world far behind. Ealier this year I bought my son a gaming PC and that ignited the flame again. I'm not much of a gamer, don't seem to have the patience for it.
It is amazing how much PC tech has changed in 27 years. When I left the industry, 486 was the norm and Pentiums just started to emerge as the newest tech. I cut my teeth on DOS 6 and I witnessed the birth of Windows 3.1.
This may not be the popular opinion but IMO and all things considered, macOS is still far superior to Win10.

Ryzen 5 3600
Auros B550 Elite M/B
32GB Trident-Z Neo DDR4 3600mhz
Auros 2070Super
Sabrent 1TB PCIe 4 NVMe
Phanteks CPU cooler
Thermaltake cable extensions
Fractal ARGB fans
Fractal Meshify C case

I just love the look of a big CPU air cooler compared to an AIO.

Nice!

For me, one of the biggest advancements in even the last 10 years is cases and cable management. It is now super easy to have a clean looking case.

Hey guys is there a website where you can enter your pc specs and get an estimated performance score? Want to upgrade my gpu want first want to see what difference it will make.

Very nice build. Clean!

Can't really argue with the Win10 vs MacOS debate. There's a simple reason for it, I guess: while Windows needs to be able to run on an infinite number of hardware configurations from an infinite number of different manufacturers and combinations thereof, MacOS runs on preconfigured setups with very specific hardware. I imagine it's a lot easier to program it that way as there aren't nearly as many variables to consider? Same thing with Android vs iPhone. iOS is brilliant because it only needs to work on iPhones. Now I miss my old iPhone. :(

What do you have and what do you want to upgrade to?

Want to upgrade my gpu from 1060 3gb to 1650ti but want to see the effect on the entire system. Have an i3 9100f and 16gb ram 2400

That's not much of an upgrade to be honest.

Any lurkers to give advice on maybe which three Socket LGA 1200 mobos I should be looking at? Humming and haaing over the mobo now, lol.

My bad I mean 1660 ti

With no CPU bottleneck you're looking at a ~40% performance increase, you're 4 core 4 thread CPU will be a bottleneck in certain CPU demanding games though and frame pacing might not be ideal in others..

Seems like the best upgrade option if I want to keep my cpu. Just need to find a GPU on special now

Have had to revise my idea of going full cutting edge because I'm now buying a new PC for someone else too .... This below comes to about £1600, decent for a couple years right?

Wait a month and get the new Ryzen processors. They really are the bees knees if AMDs claims are accurate, which they likely are.

Also, why 2 SSDs? Rather just get a larger nvme.

Right now is a bit of a bad time to buy a PC, just wait a month to see what the options are. I doubt Ryzen 5600X will be significantly faster than the i5 10600K, but you will be able to save some money on the motherboard if you go AMD.
AMD will also release their GPUs, so there will likely be better value options than the RTX 2060.
Or, at the very least, I expect intel and nVidia to drop prices slightly.

Good choice on the case, I love mine!
