If he buys the above, he's a moron. I'm sure you love him, but he's no my stepson so I can call him a moron for you :D

The Intel platform is end-of-life, meaning any future upgrades would require a higher-tier CPU (like a 14900K or something) or a whole new motherboard and processor.

The AMD setup should have another 2 CPU generations, possibly 3. Meaning he could run that for years to come, upgrade the CPU and extend longevity even more. The 7600X is also faster than the 14400F in gaming,

There is no reason to buy the Intel setup beyond stubbornness.

Yeah, I get what you are saying, and understand.

There is no accounting for peoples taste, or preferances.

I would also prefer the AMD system, for much the same reasons you noted.

Will give it another shot, to see if I can swing him to the AMD system. But it is up to him. Thanks

All good man. At the end of the day, it's his money. I just think he sounds out of touch with the current state of tech. There definitely was a time where Intel was the better bet and AMD was a poor option. These days they're both solid, they're good at different things. In this specific case though, the AMD route makes a ton more sense, especially if longevity and future upgradeability are factors.

Hey if it's like the previous AM4 platform it got the 1,2,3,5 series across 6 years, so yeah AM5 would be a better platform if they keep it like that.

Yup and now Intel is the hot and power hungry chip vs AMD as well :-)

Still a Atom

still crap
In the Zenfone it was pretty good actually. Some apps required additional patches to run on x86 Android.

Intel has made some good stuff, from Atoms to i7s - but I will never buy it new as I can't bear the thought of enabling them. I am not an intel fan, bought my first AMD in 2001 with my first 3 months of salary combined. I was an intern and got R2k per month. That Athlon XP 1500+ was awesome.

Low power devices are a passion of mine that started back with Cyrix in the 90s. But that Comet Lae Celeron is atrocious.

Even the HP t540 I use as my print / Xonotic server outperforms the Celeron - on Zen 1 architecture.

R2000 as an intern in 2001? Where was this? I worked at a newspaper as a sub editor on Saturdays while I was in college and made more then that. My first job at the end of 2001 was R5k a month.

At the company where I later came up with the idea for Mxit, Swist.

Tsk you should sue, that would've made the company R500 gazillion dollars.
Nah - I would never. Besides, Herman passed away last year and even before that, after he retired, I bumped into him on quite a few ultra distance mountain bike events and we had a good chat reminiscing of the old days.

My work contracts have always stated that anything conceived during work hours at the office is company property. Which is why I have always wanted to knock up a few of the hot chicks at work and then the company has to raise the kid. It was conceived at the office in company time.
