What games are you gonna play on it and at what resolution?

Z-series MB's are expensive and if you are not going to overclock (you have a 6500 non-OC CPU) it's a waste of money, money that could be better spent on a GPU which probably makes the biggest impact on a gaming system.

What is your budget for btw?

Probably mostly WoW and Doom 3. With a better machine I'll see what else is out there. My budget is around 10-12k. Ok so scrap that motherboard then, I know I won't be overclocking.

Oh that is a nice card.

I'm assuming you don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, just the 'box' as they say?

Are you allergic to going for previous gen socket 1150 &or slightly used gear? Reason I ask is that you can make that 10-12k stretch quite far.

What are your requirements for the number of sata & usb2/3 ports?

If you don't mind buying a second hand GPU you can pick up something even better. You can pick up a 960/280x cards on Carbonite around that price.

Let me think about it and get back to you. I have a decent screen 24" Samsung, have a case, keyboard etc. I'm not opposed to 1150 really my last machine was a 1150 and it performed dam well.

I need 4 SATA ports and 4 USB.

You mad, you don't need a Z-series MB.

I'm thinking this for R1174,
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5618#ov
http://www.rebeltech.co.za/lga1151/...ipset-lga1151-2x-dual-channel-ddr4-2133-.html

Do you need anything more than the above, look at the specs.

That's a nice little board, only thing I don't like is only 2 DIMM slots. If you start with a 8GB kit (2x4GB) you've used up all the space.

The one I linked above doesn't have USB 3.1 but does have a M.2 port and space for 4 DIMMS.

I would also highly recommend an SSD for the OS. It's one of the most important things imo, I want to slit my wrists when having to work on spinning disks and Windows 10 seems to be especially hard on them.

Did it break or something like that?

Two months back I was moving house and the half decent PC I did have fell off the back of the truck. Little pieces lying all over the road. I still don't like to talk about.

Ok I forgot to mention, that's one thing I do have in an SSD, a 120gig Patriot Blast. So that's already a grand saved there.

R3729 - Intel Skylake Core i5-6500
R1174 - GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2PH DDR4
R657 - 2x Corsair ValueSelect 4GB DDR4-2133
R901 - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" SATA6G 7200rpm
R786 - SeaSonic S12II 520w 80 PLUS Bronze
R7248 - TOTAL

GPU:
R3699 - Galax GeForce GTX 960 EXOC 4GB
R4199 - PowerColor Radeon R9 380X 4GB
Or there is this GTX 970 in Toti going for R4000

Depending on which GPU you choose that will leave you with R553 - R1053 for a chassis

That is a perfect set up thanks Ponder. I'll go for that. See I'm clueless about this stuff and would have gone and blown money on stuff I don't need.

Could most likely done for much cheaper if PotterH from Carbonite has socket 1150 combos availabe, think his MB+CPU+RAM went for about the same price as just the CPU above.

Also keep in mind that new GPUs are on the horizon, don't want you having buyers remorse a few months down the line.

I just pulled prices from one site for convenience sake, maybe compare them to prices from wootware and takealot as well, you never know.

When are the new AMD cards going to be released? I'm so tempted to pull the trigger on an R9 380 but I also want to wait for the new cards so hopefully I can see a price drop on my card.

We're not sure yet, AMD should announce more info on June 1. I hear some outlets talking about a late July release but I think they're pulling that out their butts.

Hello to all,

Please assist me in building a rig that will be used for gaming, word processing and messing around with photoshop.

I have R6.5k to spend (the price of a ps4/xbone)

This is what I currently have:

CPU - Intel g2020 LGA1155
RAM - 4GB 1333mhz DDR3
Motherboard - AsRock H61M-VS3 (mAtx)
GPU - None
PSU - Thermaltake litepower 450W
Case - Xigmatek Helios mAtx
HDD - 500GB 7200RPM

I will be buying a full HD 1920x1080 monitor in the near future.
I would like to keep the motherboard and psu if possible.
I do not wish to overclock.

Games that i want to play are - GTA V, CS:GO, Guild Wars, Spintires, Team Fortress and Witcher at 60FPS preferably.

Firstly, that's a very good post with a decent amount of detail so kudos on that.

The bolded bit is a problem unless you're willing to buy second-hand parts (which may not be a bad idea given your budget constraints). An entry-level system with an i5 quad core is going to eat up most of that budget leaving no room for a graphics card that can manage 60fps*.

That 60fps requirement alone is probably going to cost around 6k in graphics horsepower (GTX 970).

Sad are the times, my friend.
