Budget is a subjective term. What would your budget be?

cheap as possible to give 60fps on medium to high in battlefield 4.

This stuff isn't an exact science. We can only make wild guesses at the minimum specs needed for 60fps on medium. Just commit to a budget and we can recommend hardware.

If you're looking for a number I'd say don't spend less than R7-8k. The performance you lose isn't worth the money saved.

Nice build! I love WoT! I played with my HD7870 LE (Myst) and an i3 and I got 43fps - 60fps. Once I upgraded my CPU to i5 4670K I get a constant 60+fps. Which clearly shows that this game is actually CPU intensive, the same can be said about your i5 giving you those frames :)

My next mouse is going to be the M65, it got very good reviews and it seems you are happy with it as well.

See you on the batlefield!

Yeah I read on the wot forums about the need for a decent cpu, and somewhere I read that amd doesn't do that well with the game. Not sure how legit that source was though and can't remember where it was. Feel more comfortable with the Intel anyway :)

I would definitely recommend the M65! Had a Razer Orochi before this and the difference in build quality is kindof large... the buttons have just the right resistance and it's awesome to look at to top it off :D The Razer feels so cheap now

I'm currently playing bf4 on medium, my cpu is the only bottleneck in the system because it's a dual core, my specs are:

Amd 550 BE 3.1ghz
4gb ddr3 1333mhz ram
5850 gpu

Ok budget is about 7-8k. doesn't have to be intel or amd could go either way as long as it's cheap.

Some things don't have to be cheap at 7-8k, but that budget will be necessary for better fps.

I would most definitely recommend this motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance, with an i5, and this GPU: PowerColor AXR9 270X 2GBD5-PPDHE RADEON R9 270X PCS+ 2GB
That already hits the ~R6500 mark. Which doesn't really give you much headroom for a PC gaming at 60fps on BF4 on high.

You can get a cheaper motherboard (cut about R500 from there), maybe look at the R9 270 (not the X), which is another ~R300 saving. Looking at one of the cheaper i5's, instead of the 4670, you save about another ~R300. Then you still have to get a HDD (R600 - R1200), DVD-ROM (if needed R150), Case (R400 - R700), RAM (R700 - R1050), and PSU (R500 - R700).

Or you can go the AMD route... Which is a different ball game

Guys, rate my build - any input is appreciated as this is my first time building a PC:

i7 4770k - R4,161.00
MSI Z87 G43 - R1,708.00
Western Digital Caviar Black - R1,042.00
G.Skill Ripjaw 1600Mhz CL9 - R1,060.00
MSI R9 280X 3GB - R4,176.00
GS 700 PSU - R1,265.00
Cooler Master 431 Elite Mid ATX - R553.00
Dell S2240L IPS LED Display - R1,999.99

Total cost: R15,964.99

So is there anywhere I could save cash here? Perhaps a 700W PSU is overkill?

I would also like to know about cooling. My brother has the same case and similar components and gets pretty hot. It doesnt have cable management, so maybe that is something to do with it? Perhaps I need to buy some sort of extra cooling system. Or maybe heat is to expected... idk because Im a PC building noob.

Final thing, might not want the K model i7 - worth it or not?

Maybe go with the I5 4670K? its only about 10% slower than the I7 and is way cheaper. I think the I7 is only faster due to hyper threading.

If you know nothing about overclocking or don't intend to then don't get the K series. Also, you say you are a game developer? Bigger screen, SSD, and more RAM is what I would recommend.

OK cool - I was planning to dual monitor with two of those Dell screens.

Final thing - is cable management essential in order to help with cooling? Are there any better cases at that price point I should know of? Perhaps I just need to buy some fans?

Dual Monitor could be great for Game development, go for it.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, get this case:
http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29&products_id=3610
It has loads of fan mounts.

And yes, get an extra fan or 2 to help with cooling. Cable management has very little effect on cooling, but it's always good practice to tuck away the cables back-side of the case. Makes it easier to clean and change hardware as well.

Just check the specs on the case you're going to get, to determine the size of fans to get. The Cooler Master Sickleflow X are amazing fans, for a good price.

Thanks so much for the advice... I think Ill get that case.

As some of you know I built my first PC a few months ago, all is going well so far. I have about 5 chassis fans running, and it is surprisingly very very quite, need to fit 2 more because I can and there is space and its for looks...
Here is my question... fitting the front fans requires thin long screws, I have looked everywhere but no where can I find any...
I'll load some piccers later

Yeah, they are hard to come by. I think the CM Sickleflow X fans come with those long thin ones. I think...

Hi

just wanted to get your guys' opinion on somethings. I would like to have a PC that can run games (easy on medium settings) and also do proper multitasking (Photoshop/Premier kinda thing) currently using a Fujitsu lifebook laptop with i3 (2.4Ghz, 3GB Ram), I want something a bit faster than this. So I've been looking at evetech and comx-computers, and these are the PCs I'm looking at:

i7 - R6k
http://www.evetech.co.za/Computer-systems/intel-core-i7-quad-core-custom-built-basic-desktop-pc-32.aspx

i5 - R4.9k
http://www.evetech.co.za/Computer-systems/intel-core-i5-quad-core-custom-built-basic-desktop-computer-156.aspx
I was thinking about getting the i5 and adding a graphics card and extra ram. What do you guys think? :)

*At most I am willing to spend about R6300
