Hey guys. New to this section of the Forum. Looking at building a Mid range gaming PC. Im mainly going to be using it for Coding and playing Dota 2 on it. Maybe some need for speed and l4d2. Nothing major like crysis 3 on FHD 3D etc etc. Obviously would try the odd intensive game every now and then, but mainly want to run Dota 2 at FHD with 60fps on the clock.

Budget is about R9k and im Cape Town based. This is what I'm looking at from Landmark PC. Im a bit undecided between the MSI twin Frozr IV R9 270x and the Asus 7850 2 gig. If someone could please recommend something or provide clarification here. As far as what i can see, the clock speeds are pretty much the same. I am saving R300 by going with the Asus which is a better known brand.

I only need the tower and the inside components. I already have a 1tb HDD, mechanical keyboard, 24" FHD monitor and a Roccat gaming mouse. I have been using an i3 laptop from 2010 until now with external peripherals, so thought it was time for an upgrade. What do you guys think of the below pc. Any changes or comments would be extremely appreciated!

Very good build. The R9 270X is a lot better than the HD7850, get the R9 270X if you can.

So first thing your doing wrong is buying from Landmark pc they are one of the more expensive online shops in S.A.

Like EmileS stated try and get the R9-270X, it is definitely better just because it is a newer card with the latest technology and has a faster bandwidth rate which will make it overall a better card.

Ok Thanks guys! I was using wootware, and Landmark came out to be a little bit cheaper. But going with Rebeltech. Now to check when they are getting stock of the R9-270x hopefully soon

As soon as stock comes in i certainly will :). I either need to locate other ram from either a different supplier or choose a different brand

Did you email Rebeltech to enquire when stock will be available on the G.SKILL ARES, 8GB (2X 4GB) KIT, DDR3-2133, CL11, 1.5V, WITH LOW-PROFILE ORANGE R1008.00?

or you can go for the CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M4X1600C9G, VENGEANCE WITH GOLD HEATSINK, 8GB (4X 2GB) R1091.00 or CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10B, VENGEANCE WITH BLUE HEATSINK, 8GB R1198.00 if you prefer it in Blue but it would set you back another R107.00

Unfortunately RAM prices is sky high at the moment and is just going to continue climbing until DDR4 is launched this year.

First off - You just have to list the part by its name and not it's features: E.g.: "MSI Intel H81M-P33"
Secondly - It looks like you're not going to be gaming at all with no GPU? So, my guess is that this PC is for work only?

i7 is not worth the extra cash in your case with the budget as it is. Rather get 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD with the extra money.
I would also suggest another chassis and PSU (for future upgrades).

Hi people how goes it?

i'm looking to upgrade my current rig to i5 from core2quad. budget as usual is low as possible but i don't want to compromise on power since this upgrade will be the last for a long while. my budget is initially 5k but depending on whats said i can wait another month and make it 6k.

I can get a i5 4670k for R2750 here:

now here's some more detail, i have an msi HD7770 gpu and i dunno if i'll need an upgrade, since im currently running pci2.0 and the card is 3.0, is that board overkill? should i spend less on the board save another month and get a lower spec board and better spec gpu? also should crossfire be in my thoughts?

i presume anything i buy from firstshop will carry the 10% discount.
 
Get the best board you can afford, then save up for a new graphics card when that one gets tired... Don't bother spending extra for crossfire, it's highly unlikely you'll ever use it.

No, you need a better GPU. R9 270 or GTX750Ti atleast.

Yeah, the rest are all good. You do need a bit bigger PSU though. 450W or higher should be good for quite a while. Also, get another 4GB of RAM in the future.

I am claiming from the Insurance but they do not work with the retail companies. So this is a system they want to give me from Mustek, but for 10k....

What? Giving you that old tech? I won't accept it at all if I were you. An that's a really small PSU, no room for a GPU upgrade later or more HDDs (unless you upgrade the PSU).

Well, if they don't give you the cash, tell them the PC they are giving is not worth that amount and is old tech. List to them that you atleast want a better PSU and GPU.

The insurance sounds strange though. A lot of guys get the cash, and others people go and get quotes from retailers for the insurance on what they want. Sometimes even getting a slightly better PC than they had.

Maybe you should try and get a quote on a R10k PC with different components (from a Retailer like Rebeltech or Wootware) to show them what you can get and what you are looking for. Rather than the crap they are giving. Nothing wrong with the CPU or Windows (which add to the cost the most), but all the other stuff are low budget old components they are trying to get rid off at Mustek.
