Sigh :( I have registered on carbonite, waiting for approval. I guess I will take a look there. Will still need help with component recommendations and compatibility then.

Just to help ease your fears, I ordered an i5 4690 from PotterH as per ponder's suggestion on Thursday, and received it today.

Lets us know how the build goes ;)

Will do. Waiting for supplier stock on the case, so will probably only build it next weekend, but looking forward to putting it all together.

Also waiting a little before I grab a card, would rather have a little extra in the bank before I splurge on a GPU.

You have restraint I can only dream of :p

Pulled the trigger on an I5 4590 from PotterH some time ago. Chip is running like a baws. The guy is legit.

Can anyone help/advise me please.ive been out of touch with pc hardware since the early 2000's and planning to build myself a pc for home use cos our laptop was stolen recently.i was thinking of i3 cpu and mobo since it will be used mainly for work ,browsing, youtube and music. Question is: what mobo to use that will alow me to upgrade at a later stage to i5 or even i7? And what i3 cpu to use that will give good performance at a good or 2nd hand price.(i dont mind buying used parts)

Socket is the most important. 1155 should suffice

Buy an i5 from PotterH over on Carbonite, it's about the same price as a retail i3 ;)

Considering fixing up that old Core2Quad (think it was a 2.3ghz).

I have
The mobo
The cpu
GTX460 gpu
Case

Need:
PSU
RAM
HDD
Screen
Kb & mouse

Is it worth it, or should I just sell what I have? Don't really have a specific purpose for it.

It's not worth fixing if you don't have a use for it, stupid Fanie.

:p

HTPC Build advice?

Hi, I hope I am in the right section of MyBroadband. Can anyone advise where in SA a person can get a budget HTPC case under R2000 that can use a full size Graphics Card. Not that low profile slots.

Very Desperate

What do you think of this build? At nearly R10.5k it's blowing my budget, but I really want one with longevity and easy upgrade possibilities. I mainly have simulators and cad like programs, so will this be good for that as well?
I'm probably getting from wootware.

Any cheaper recommendations would be good, but I'd like to keep good quality parts
