Bought an SE2419H on Takealot. Seemed like a good price IPS, but now I see a couple of meh reviews online. Anyone got experience with the SE/19 line? Can't return if opened, and good information on the model seems sparse.

I'm just looking for a monitor with reasonable colour and contrast. Nothing overboard, as I'm running a Dell U series as my main.

This is what I bought in 2011. The only thing I added was a Samsung 128GB SSD and the PSU diead and replaced it with a Seasonic.
------------------------------------------------------
1 x Mushkin 1333MHz DDR3 8GB Silverline Low-Voltage (996770) = R784.04
1 x LG GH22NS50 , 22x , Oem pack , SATA , black , su (DW-L22So) = R163.99
1 x Coolermaster SGC-2000-KKN1 storm series - Scout (CH-CSCWN) = R740.94
1 x Deepcool Tiger Shark, Nickle plated copper base (DC-TS) = R353.12
1 x Intel Sandybridge lga1155 i7-2600 - Quad core+Hy (BX80623I72600) =
R2,457.44
1 x Corsair TX650 , Eps12V , ATX 12V V2.2 - 620w ( 1 (PS-C650TXE) = R836.70
1 x Asus P8H67-M (Rev B3): all-in-one LGA1155 mb wit (P8H67-MR3) =
R1,047.38
------------------------------------------------------
Total: R6,383.60

Is it time to upgrade? Please say yes. lol

I'd say yes. Then go for an AMD setup

I use that exact model at work, it's alright for a monitor colours aren't bad. Not sure for gaming though. Also yes you can return it opened, you just tell them you're not happy with it.

I'll have a look. I wanted:
i9 9700 (k)
MOBO
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
This will be R13k to R14k.

I think I can still use the case. I just bought an Antec 750W psu because the seasonic died.

Wouldn't they be doing that because dual channel is better than single?
4GB is so meh you're really not going to notice the performance benefits of DDR anyway.

Gave my wife's Lenovo a bit of a refresh over the weekend: swapped out the platter drive for an SSD (she's amazed that it boots in "3 seconds" now lol), and bumped up the RAM to 8GB. Max I'd be able to go is 12GB, because the 4GB stick it comes with is soldered to the motherboard...

Freaking hate those soldered on sticks. It's why my wifes is 6GB :-(

Why? You can build a Ryzen 7 3700X system for that price

R5999 - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
R1899 - MSI B450M MORTAR MAX
R2249 - G.Skill F4-3200C16D-32GVK Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200MHz CL16
R1999 - Hikvision E2000 1TB M.2 PCI-e Gen 3 x 4 NVMe 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
R14k - TOTAL

The ASRock B450 PRO4 MB is R1499 and more than capable as well if you want to save some money. Rebeltech is out of stock on the SSD so listed Evetech. 3600MHz RAM is R420 more.

Which GPU do you have?

Theoretically speaking, how much longer can I hold onto / use my GTX 1070 before I should "totally" upgrade?

Depends on your usecase. For 1080p/60fps the 1070 is still a very capable card IMHO and I am sure it will start showing it's age probably around the release of the next gen nVidia cards

How long is a piece of string?

All depends on the quality settings and fps you wanna game at.
Thanks for the responses, both of you. I think I'll wait for the next releases and then see about an upgrade.

I'm assuming the 3700X is better (I made a typo, it was supposed to be i7 9700K. I thought it was an i9). I'll do more research.
As for graphics card, anything will do since I do not game at all. I'm just building a dev desktop. Many instances of Visual Studio, SQL server, possible some VMs.

The 8 core 16 thread ryzen vs the 8 core 8 thread would be better imho https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-3900x-smt-off-vs-intel-9900k/3.html

I'm not a dev so I would suggest asking people in the game for their input based on experience https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/forums/software-and-web-development.132/

I've started to look at upgrade options for my box and my so, for intel is it better to get a KS instead of a K (I9s)? I'm also considering the ryzen for myself but for gaming, vms, development would it actually be better? I can afford either I9 K/KS or similar priced ryzen, but amd and I just don't know. Will it be as awesome as the Athlone Hammer?

Get the Ryzen 9 3900X - much more versatile for what you're going to be doing plus it games pretty well too.
