Yes, it's a bargain at R2k if you actually manage to get one.
Yup... now "out of stock"
Like people in the Hardware Bargains thread said, it'll just be refunded as the pricing is incorrect. I really don't believe that it is the actual price of the card, because even the Palit one that is supposed to be the budget 1660 Super is
priced at R4 999 on Wootware

Ok, 1080p should be a cake walk then, I tested it at 4K for Doom and Destiny 2:
Doom - 80-100 FPS
Destiny 2 - 60-80 FPS

RE:2 was more of a mixed bag, 4K it struggles as the memory requirements spike to around 12gig vram, you're able to hit 60fps, but there are drops and stutters in certain areas. 1080P will be easy for RE:2.

I think overall you should be comfortable playing a few titles at 4K, with others at 1440p. For reference my setup is a 2070S, Ryzen 3600, 8x2GB 3200.

Wow it will kill it on 1080p  I think my next upgrade will be a higher resolution monitor.
I have placed an order on Wootware. The price has gone up to R10899

Thanks man

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

For better gaming performance, should I upgrade CPU or GPU first? I'm thinking GPU...

good afternoon all
hope everyone and their respective family and friends are safe and well firstly

just needing some advice
i am looking for to build or buy a unit that could serve as a dual purpose unit

something for my daughter to use as a school pc but is somewhat upgradeable over time

and secondly to use as a home media server something like a NAS I read up on
i see that NAS units are pricey and need additional drives etc

so i was hoping to buy or build pc unit able to house 4+ drives as a Plex.media server

is there a minimum recommendation for one of these?
my other problem is that i have two Roku's that run Netflix andnmy Plex which runs off a laptoas o and external hard drive. they wont allow me to cast my showmax
as i don't have a smart tv at the moment is.my options to maybe get a Chromecast in order to view showmax?
or should i be looking at something else to add or replace the rokus and add to the possible pc build?

hoping for intel driven unit or is ryzen better alternative?
8gb ram or 16?
4+ Drives of 3+ tb each
case that is not so big in order to house everything
would i need a decent graphics card in case she plays games at some stage?

thanks everyone ,help and advice appreciated as im.hoping to buy post lockdown

i stay in cape town so i know wootware is close by and i stay close to Chaos computers so maybe they could supply components.

GPU. Also keep in mind that there will be new amd&nvidia gpus coming out.
The cpu you can upgrade when ryzen 4000 comes out or then get a cheaper used 3700 etc

So the Ryzen 1600AF has gone up by R200 sigh. So has the Asrock motherboard...

happy to go to 7,500- 10k
but if there's anything that you feel may add benefit im happy to listen and add to the cost
ideally want media unit and pc for school etc

Everything has gone up by the looks of things.
In 11 days? Surely they didn't just buy the products recently? Rebeltech has kept the prices of the motherboard.

Ryzen is a better alternative these days. For your needs, I'd rather buy a Ryzen APU (ie with integrated graphics) than a separate GPU. A separate GPU adds quite a bit to the cost and you don't know if you need one yet. Your daughter may or may not want to play games - no point spending all that money on a GPU just in case.

Get a 4 core Ryzen APU, 16GB of RAM - why so much storage space?

A case that size should be fine - any ATX case will be able to hold that many drives. Personally I'd buy a 1TB NVMe drive to boot off, and buy other 3/4 TB SATA drives as you need them.

Note that the reason NAS's are expensive is usually because they provide some kind of a RAID solution. RAID - Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. Means you put 4 drives into a NAS but you only see a single logical volume. They work some magic to make redundancy better. You won't have that with a PC, unless you do it in software which is not advised. Software RAID has the problem that you can't just unplug your drives and move them.

Rebeltech is not trading under lockdown.

peterpan posted a link in this thread on friday to the palit 2070s which was R10499, it's now R10899!

All I'll say is these sudden price hikes raises questions...

Wootware also has monopoly on that chip think they specially imported it, it was suppose to be US only chip. They also one of the few pc store open for orders atm, so no real competition. I think it will go up even more if they have import the next batch.

It does raise questions, especially since they are the only ones that can send PC parts during the lockdown and now suddenly parts are up, I mean the chip went up R100 just from yesterday, the motherboard wasn't available yesterday but is all of a sudden?
They aren't supposed to price gouge are they?

It's also an 85 dollar chip we're paying 160 dollars for before the dollar went balistic.

Who raised the prices, them or the distributor?

Msi motherboards I see a price increase, did they raise the price or the distributor?
Palit gpus they are the distributor for those so only they could have raised the prices.

Msi distro is closed they can't have updated pricing. So they increased it as probably know it will cost more then they purchase it again
