quick q: do you guys think upgrading the ram will boost gaming performance? i have ryzen 1500x with 8gb 2400mhz ram.

Which MB do you have? If b450/x470 and it receives bios updates then ryzen 4000 is not that far off

yeah. hopefully 3000 will get cheaper by the time it releases
The 2600 never really got any cheaper :-(, in fact currently the 2600 is the exact price it was a year ago. But thats now thanks to ROE.

Probably not the best time to upgrade atm, but don't know how things will pan out in SA in the future (or the world for that matter). :) At least I can forget about the negativity whilst gaming..

That's why I did the 1600AF upgrade for my wife and sons machine, in 2 weeks after it went up R1000

so double the $ add a zero and then some

will stores start bringing the 450 down then?

Depends on your definition of reasonable, rumour has it starting price is ~US$100

One has to wonder how much longer AM4 will be around, I suspect Zen3 to be the last to use AM4 before AM5 comes out and if that's the case then you might as well get B450.

Finally got my parts back from Wootware yesterday. Just installed everything in the case and it boot up first time. Had a few panicked moments until the boot screen showed up. Installing windows now, then all the drivers and updates. Will hopefully see how it games tomorrow. Very excited now that it is finally working. My old pc will now become a dedicated plex server basically, saves the gaming pc from being on the whole time.

So what was the issue?

Of all things the CPU was faulty...

Just want to make sure, I downloaded the motherboard drivers from Asrock's site and the GPU drivers from MSI. Installed the graphics one first because it was ready first, Radeon 20.4.2. It seems like that installed the motherboard drivers as well, I saw a few popups while it was installing. If I now open the motherboard installer it wants to install the same software? Checked in device manager and there are no issues. Last time I did this you had to install each piece of the mobo drivers individually, and then the gpu drivers. Seems like it is all in one now.

Busy copying a game folder over from the old pc, Witcher 3. Will see how it performs. See my RAM speed is only 2133 MHz so I need to go into BIOS and check the settings there.

Geez, talk about unlucky, dead cpus are rare.

Win10 probably installed the mb drivers, you can leave it as is or use the ones from mb manufacturer.

Go into bios & enable xmp profile.

I am working through the video now. When I went into BIOS first it was already on XMP profile, and the ram was selected as 3600, but it still showed 2133MHz. Opened Thaiphoon burner and it also shows the speed grade as 2133 MHz. Exported the data to the calculator and will try manually setting the values in BIOS (used Zen+, Hynix D die). Starting with 3200 MHz.

I don't think it worked, screen stayed black a bit longer and when it booted again it was still at 2133 MHz. Went back to BIOS and chose the 3200 MHz profile and that worked. RAM now shows running at 3200 MHz. Will check over the weekend if I can bump it a bit more but I don't know if they will reach 3600 MHz. Good enough for now.
