I'd watch Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus before others usually but they specifically looked at the 5950X and 5900X first. Linus has all the new SKUs in his vid.

Feel free to start having a discussion for us couldn't be bothered, won't fully understand anyway types soon ;)

If i had the extra $$ i would get the 5900x, sell my 3000 series.
I didn't think the 5000 series was going to be such a good improvement in single core!

Anyone manage to check the 5900X price on Wootware? I saw on launch the 5800X was 9k, this morning 9.2k and now sold out .

Gamers Nexus did mention in the 5800X review that it makes more sense to upgrade to the 5900X since there's only a 100$ difference to the 5900X for another 4 cores (mainly for productivity reasons). Originally I was considering the 5800X for my first build in January (hopefully), but it might make more sense to just get the 5900X one time, especially considering AM4 is EOL and I want to get as much out of it as I can.

The nice thing about AMD is that they tend to make older CPUs for some time still. You can buy the 5600X now, and upgrade to the 5950X in a couple of years' time.

Wait for amazon to get stock, it will probably be cheaper to import.

I guess so but I might as well go big one time and save the money anyways.

Hm, only worry here is shipping times and also returns and warranties. Depending on the price difference, might be more peace of mind to just go with Wootware, but let's wait it out and see how big the price gap is.

So it kills Intel but it's pretty damn pricy, that's what I'm getting so far (315 for an i7 vs 540 for a 5900X).

The 5900X doesn't compete with an i7, its competitor is the 10900k/10850k which is around $500-$550 if you can find one.

Sorry, should have put it was the i7 I was looking at getting. Most definitely doesn't compete with an 5900X, heh.

AMD doesn't appear to have a direct competitor to the 10700K (in the 5000 lineup), so you may as well go with that then if you really need something right now. The 3800X, which should be the direct competitor, is apparently way overpriced.

When you look at cost per core, the 5800X is pretty much the worst of the lot, but damnit, it's the one I want! I want more than 6 cores and I want all of them on a single CCX.

The 5600X is more than enough for gaming though, so if you only game, it is the best value. If you do some productivity stuff that benefit from multiple cores as well, spending a little more to get the 5900X makes more sense.

I decided to ride this one out for a year or so. I'll probably get one when the new DDR5 CPUs are released and I can get a 5000 series for cheap-ish.

For gaming the 5600x will do fine even though it has less cores.

Gotta say though, from the good few vids I've watched, AMD has clobbered Intel pretty bad performance wise with this release. Healthy competition ensues I hope.

Seeing the benchmarks from linus, nexus etc. etc.

The 5600X which is aimed at the i5 10600k, beats out the i5 and i7 respectively. I think it even beats the i9 in some cases as well! So it's a amazing gaming cpu to get.

I agree with you, for gaming 5600X
If you game and want to brag, 5900X

It ACTUALLY loses in one game only. Red dead 2

The rest it's equal or it beats intel with a healthy margin. Which i didn't think would happen this early 5000 series
