So you've got a 4 pin header? Have you tried just shaving the connector to fit? I couldn't get my RGB case fans to fit so I just cut the connector plastic to make it fit.
I think I might just do that. The problem seems to be round hold, square peg quite literally. Maybe I'll see if I still have an old CD audio 4-pin connector and canabilise that to connect the fan connector to the mobo.

Yup it was the only way I could mine to fit.

Is it worth buying a 3060Ti/3070 at the moment? The current headlines about GPU prices have me concerned but it’s Cyberpunk 2077 week, you know?

Where is the best place to buy upgrade ram and what should I get. Two more slots for dual ram available.

G.Skill F4-2666C15D-8GVR Ripjaws V 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-2666MHz CL15 1.2V Red Desktop Memory.

Asus Prime B350-Plus AMD Ryzen Socket AM4 ATX Desktop Motherboard.

Son is complaining that some of his games are crashing due to a RAM shortage.

I know there are big PC boffins here to help me out.

And maybe decent SSD storage or similar for his games as he is running al his games from a external mechanical Terabyte drive and the operating system running on 120GB SSD.

I thank you

I was thinking of the gtx3070, but the radeon 6800 is so closely priced in South Africa. The Rx 6800 destroys the gtx3070.

I'm waiting on the 6800 to be in stock, selling my 1080ti and moving to team red this time around.

Games don't really 'crash' due to ram shortage, more of a game lag and stutter.

But seeing that it's an AMD Am4 board, I'd go duel kit, 8gb x2. GSkill is a good choice of system memory.

I think Wootware has a decent price on their 500GB ssd's. https://www.wootware.co.za/teamgroup-t253x2512g0c101-gx2-512gb-sata-6gb-s-2-5-solid-state-drive.html

If his system is actually crashing, it’s more likely that there’s a ram incompatibility problem with the motherboard. Update it to the latest bios. Memory compatibility was one of Ryzen’s teething issues.

Thanks for this...knew I came to the right place for advice.

Will do and see if it resolves the issues he's having.

Yes...and I really like Wootware service...they are the best.

Even the 1TB is also fairly priced.

Currently what's the cheapest CPU that has very high single core clock speed?

Something around 4.5Ghz+ would be nice. I use Lightroom that is unfortunately optimised for single core and the faster the clock speed the better.

I could be wrong, what about the Ryzen 5600x

Beastly little 6 core CPU with some overclocking ability as well. Beats out the i5 counterpart by a lot. I think it even takes on the i7 on quite a few scenarios

9600k/9700k
I saw 9600k going for 3k a few times second hand.

I was totally surprised when Dawn Wing delivered the modular Super Flower PSU I bought on Friday from Wootware this morning.

However, the reason I bought it was because I could hear a soft arcing (almost HDD seek) like noise when the CPU is at idle, I suspected it was the dodgy ZA Tech 350watt PSU I had and order the replacement Super Flower.

While it is a huge improvement in terms of noise, the soft clicking/arcing noise is still there at idle. Soon as I throw load at the CPU it goes away.

Now I've never been a Asrock fan and unlike BioStar it failed to convince me otherwise. Do I return this for store credit or just roll with it? I would not mind a GigaByte B550 as they have redeemed themselves over the past two decades in my books.

Sounds like VRM coil whine. I have zero tolerance for such nonsense and would send it back.

That depends on what in Lightroom. I know importing uses all my threads. Manipulation would use a single thread, but is it really that slow?

Edit: Puget systems recommendations

Shows how great the 5600X is from AMD. For the money it's amazing for gaming and workloads

That would be great barring the R6800 price.

That's the kind of thing I have looked at previously, have you seen them on Carbonite 2hnd for R3k?

Develop mode is single core optimised, the snappier the better especially when there's 100s of pics to get through, they have slowly got their code better but I would like to get a min 4.5ghz CPU.

I wonder how an Nve SSD would help?
My motherboard is sata only, will a PCI-X to Nve get me close enough to onboard native Nve speeds?

Here is one I see that got posted recently. A while back I was looking for either a 9600k in that price range or a 9700k. Got lucky with a 9700k at R4000

It's the cheapest solution I can think of, but you will be stuck on 9th gen and I'm not sure how how hard it is now to acquire a motherboard.

Getting a newer 10th gen or going a higher tier Ryzen would be more convenient, but you pay for convenience.

True it is new to the market, but seeing the benchmarks on top. It beats out i9's on the workload you use it for.
Paying R6800 and having something that would last you quite a good few years?
