Agreed but some guys predict the price will increase drastically when the 1159 upgrade takes place in July so mining returns decrease but if the price increases it might balance out.. I bought a 3060 for R 11 500 (can get it for R 12 000 now) but paying R 8000+ for a 1660 super is madness. Ultimately no one knows if/when the crypto market will crash and when the silicone shortage will end so keep looking for deals but please don't go and pay double for a card unless you are really stuck.

Even here in the UK 2060's are going for £500. We're at that stage now where people are getting desperate to put SOMETHING into their incomplete builds I guess.

A card that seems to be doing well, and has better availability is the 6700 XT, mainly because of how "bad" it is for mining (I'm hitting about 47Mh mining altcoins overnight on mine) compared to nVidia cards, as well as the 5700 XT.
 
Where can I buy a modular cable like this for my psu...two cables burnt like this on my mining rig.

No one here in PE area seems to sell them.IMG_20210512_114728.jpg

It's an Andyson 1200watt.

Used for a mining rig...think it might have been al the latest loadsheddings that fried the cable.

Im like 99% i have spare, due to me selling few of these and always kept some of the cables spare.

Il try and check a bit later , def have PCIE cables for them

Haven't watched it yet, is it something along the lines of some boards have multicore enhancements on by default so they boost higher for all core thus using more power?

Edit: I watched it, my decision to get a nice motherboard this time seems justified.

It's just bios settings so not really a big deal?

It's also kinda debatable whether this is good or bad. A budget board that sticks to the 65W power limit might be good for a user who uses the Intel stock cooler on like a 11400F. Imagine the motherboard maker sent their budget stuff out with the power limits set to 120W+ and the user sees CPU throttling and scary temps - that's probably a worse situation to deal with reputationally.

How many cards did you have powered off of the 1 cable? I've seen this happen when too many cards were connected to 1 cable.

Be careful using PSU cables from different power supply makes, I've heard of horror stories when trying to use cables from other brands.

With a 11400 you should be ok but if you move up to 8 cores not so much.

With a budget board I would expect it to run a locked cpu at it's full potential without issues. AMD does a better job here at a lower price.

Ja I hooked up 3 cards to the one cable and what you say makes perfect sense but I would understand if it was the power cables for the gpu's itself but the ones that got fried was the Sata connections for the risers.

Thanx for the advise...now I'm terrified to try other brands...Gpu's don't come cheap hey.

75W can be pulled from the riser itself (obviously depends on GPU power draw + type of riser) so you are potentially running 225W along that cable. And you can see it daisy chains through the SATA connector, and that is only rated for 54W effectively. So you can see where the problem is I hope. This is not a PSU issue, but lack of electrical knowledge on your part, which could have had much more serious consequences

No worries man, at least you have learnt :)
Might be worth selling your current PSU if you cant fine more cables and getting a new high quality one with all the cables you'll need.

Looking at upgrading my 7yr old i5 4690k.
Is it worth going 5900x over the 5800x.
I get all these at cost, difference between the two isn't much..

It depends on what you want to do.
Afaik the 5800X has 1 CCX with 8 cores, and the 5900 has 2 CCXes with 6 cores each. Having cores on different CCXes introduces a little bit of latency, so for some games the 5800X might even be better.
For gaming I think the 6c12t parts are still the best bang for buck. I personally would go for the 5800X for gaming.

Check reviews though.
