On the bright side Jensen is helping owners of the 30 series retain value for the most part, real world benchmarks dependent.

So ordered this
https://www.wootware.co.za/g-skill-...00mhz-cl22-1-20v-so-dimm-notebook-memory.html x2
for my wives HP 15" laptop, it's got a pretty decent cpu in it i5-1135G7, but the normal hdd and 8GB of RAM makes windows 11 run like a dog.
So hopefully with the swap out of the hdd and more RAM will actually allow the cpu to work better. The only thing that's gonna take time is the cloning of that 1tb 5400rpm sigh. I was also disappointed the thing didn't have an m2 slot, but strangely enough 2 removable RAM slots.

Didn’t nVidia get the memo that miners and scalpers are trying to dump all their cards? Those prices are going to have to drop really soon.
No it won't drop anytime soon. The increase is the result of TSMC cancelling bulk order discount and increasing chip costs by 20%. Nvidia dug a hole when they decided to go with samsung and then jump ship back to TSMC, so any trust they had with TSMC going forward was eroded. Additionally it seems likely that "gaming" graphics is now an afterthought as nvidia is focusing less on the gaming side of things, their focus of late has been, with servers, AI deep learning, automotive ect.

Plus they need to get rid of 3000 series surplus they have on hand, they have A shyte load of 3000 series chips they need to get rid of. Lastly they decided, it would be fun to pull a fast one with 4080 16 and 12 gig versions, with the two being entirely different chips AD103 and AD104 with 2000+ cuda core difference between them. The 4080 12 gig should have been the 4070, looking at the specs and the keynote, nvidia is intentionally misleading consumers with the 12 gig version, nor is it the first time they have done so. Keynote slide shows that both 4080's are faster than the 3080 by 2 -4 times. Which means any thing said at that keynote needs to be taken with a ton of salt with a BIG FAT ASTERISKS.

It is also very likely as most reviewers pointed out, people are likely going to wait and get AMD and their flagship will be cheaper as well. Nvidia is either intentionally working them self's out of the gaming market or their management are FKING stupid. No wonder EVGA got out, and stopped the toxic relationship with nivdia, I mean seriously you going to sell your FE cards for less than board partners, with board partners either having to closely match nvidia pricing and take a loss or simply end up not selling cards at all. Nvidia has made it clear they just don't care, and they intend on taking the apple route of being the sole provider of cards in the near future.

RDNA 3 is either going to wipe the floor with nvidia or get pretty close and for cheaper. If you buy a 4000 series card you have even less common sense than nvidia. Nivdia is working it self out of the gaming market, whether intentional or otherwise. I would personally stick it to nvidia. Crypto mining is unlikely to see any rebound after the merge this month, and while miners have switched over to other crypto for mining it isn't nearly as profitable as ETH was. Which means GPU sales in general is going to tank hard and fast.

TLDR:
Nvidia has too many 3000 series chips left to offload, until those stocks dwindle nvidia isn't going to reduce prices on the 4000 series cards anytime soon.

So I'm back in the market for a GPU. Still got the i3-7100 and 8GB RAM.

Here are my selections:

All of them are basically the same price. But I don't know which one to go for. The goal here is to get a card that's relatively "new", but should run most games effectively (upgrading from Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti 4GB) without having to upgrade the CPU and of course the MOBO.

RAM selection:

Experts, please advise.
Got the RX580, and I'm happy. Although the card heats up quite fast, it's probably a cooling thing from my side. I should probably get another case fan to install on my side panel... :)

What's your current case fan setup?

One exhaust fan at the back (I can only put one there) and I have another space on my side panel for a fan.
Krikey. You need a new case dude

But yes, a side-intake fan would help with temps. No space in the front of the case for a fan?

 I happen to like my little case :p

Nope, is shut at the front.

The fan layout is sort of like this one. I don't think I can add fans in the front of my case, honestly. Although, I do see there are small gaps at the sides of the front panel, so maybe I can?

That case you linked does have a fan in the front though, at the bottom. Is yours the same?

Ok cool. Btw I see that my games stutter (i.e. FPS drops) a tiny bit after a while. Like a quick drop and all is back to normal. Could that be related to the temps?

Yup.
Could be the temps, you can monitor them using Coretemp for the CPU and GPU-Z for the GPU. Is the system running an SSD or hard drive?

Actually, can you just give the specs of the PC?

i3-7100
8GB RAM
120GB SSD for Windows and core apps (Steam, etc)
1TB HDD for Games, etc (A WD Blue)
ASUS RX 580 4GB
1 case fan
550W PSU

Depending on the game it could be RAM related. Some games will get above the 8GB limit and have to swap to the page file on the SSD (which is small and won't have much pagefile available).

Otherwise temps are a safe bet too.

I remember when I added the exhaust fan it helped my 750 ti's performance, so perhaps I should just get another fan?
