AMD 7k CPUs wiping the floor with Intel at the moment, as expected. Finally topping single core performance as well. Until Intel releases their next chip, anyway.
People still care about who has the biggest penis? I want / use a box and whether it's intel or amd it's what shoe fits.

The performance jumps they keep getting while technically being on the same process node from TSMC since Matisse (3000 series) is very impressive.

I'm sure TSMC has tweaked things along the way but it's still 7nm Finfet.

Zen 4 is 5nm

That changes things a bit...I thought I read 7nm on Techpowerup.

I'll have to wait for a clock-to-clock comparison before seeing how much of the performance improvement is brute force versus actual IPC gains.
It’s the IO dies that are on the tweaked 7nm (so-called 6nm). Compute cores are 5nm.

Hey guys

Looking at 12th Gen i5 12400

Is there anything from AMD that can match or outperform for cheaper as the motherboards and CPUs are getting pricey

Probably not, that said I have not looked at pricing in a while. Keep in mind that Intel 13th gen will be out next month so maybe wait a we bit before buying if you can.

Actually thanks for that ! , I can wait and Just buy other components first

It is very good paired with a 3060 Ti really good performance just for 12th gen motherboards are pricey compared to previous gens when you want good IO etc
Yep, I have a 360 Ti as well. The motherboard was a bit pricey yes, but I wanted something that will last me a while and had built in wifi

https://www.pcworld.com/article/1075115/ryzen-9-vs-core-i9-can-amds-eco-mode-save-you-money.html

PCWorld decided to test AMD's claim that the 7950x is faster in ECO mode (65W power limit) than the 12900k at full power.

11_Eco_Cinebench_R23_nT.jpg

Total system power draw with the 7950x at 65W was about 170W, unlocked it was 340W. The 12900k was around 360W.

Very neat. Especially factoring in PBO which will lets the user set the power limit as desired to match up with the cooling on hand (or just let the CPU run itself at 95C).

Makes the diminishing returns outside the efficiency window pretty clear - ~10% extra performance for ~60% more power.

  • Ryzen 5 7600X – R6,299
  • Ryzen 7 7700X – R8,599
  • Ryzen 9 7900X – R11,999
  • Ryzen 9 7950X – R14,999
Damn, they are quite pricey.
Throw in the prices of the 40 series, I'm glad I upgraded 6 months ago and will probably keep this till the second AM5 chip
