The plan to beat WhatsApp

WhatsApp is where it's at yo. Even ou ballies these days know what a "whatsapp" is.

You tell an ou ballie "telegram" & they would be like "a letter?!"
 
Indeed, Telegram is the best messaging app at the moment on merit. (Especially good for business / among staff to send documents and generally replace emails which way too often doesn't reach its destination due to spamfilter issues.)

I have a large and steadily increasing contact list already, with a lot of people joining lately due Neighbourhood watches moving to Telegram due to Whatsapp's user channel limit restriction. Have personally moved loads of people to Telegram from 3 years ago when I started using it, but only over the last 8 months or so have I noticed more and more people join after hearing from it elsewhere.

How is the ability to delete messages a good thing in a business environment.

I've seen the same thing pushed with Slack that it increases productivity but I've also seen the opposite where Slack becomes distracting and actually decreases productivity.
 
It's not called "WhatsApp" everywhere in SA -- some call it "watsop" :crylaugh:

Telegram --- so that sounds like worth looking into.

the pain is trying to get rid of the "bloatware" which sucks up so much data as soon as you connect even if you are not using the apps.

I've been getting annoyed recently when colleagues who I haven't given my contact details to have contacted me via whatsapp.
I'm going to start deleting them from my whatsapp and use telegram for work purposes, basically forcing them to use telegram if they want to contact me when I'm not at work. Whatsapp for friends and family and telegram for work.

No. Big mistake. Don't add more crap to this, the ads after the calls are painful enough already
 
If they really want to differentiate themselves, introduce an open API so that it can be an all purpose messaging platform instead of yet another chat app.
