The point of Talking Points?

I never really took notice of the Talking Points accumulating on my number I use for PPDBs until yesterday when I clicked on the tag by accident.

I then noticed that for the number of points I have accumulated I can get 750 SMS valid for 90 days or 20% discount on Vodacom calls. Both of these 'rewards' are pretty useless to me as I don't use the account for either calls or SMS.

The SMS' are certainly very expensive! Spend R5000 on airtime to get 500 points and you get 750 SMS, i.e. spend R6.67 to get a free SMS!!! EISH!!! Be that as it may, it is equivalent to about R600 worth of peak-time SMS. A 3Gig ad-hoc data bundle sells for R589...

I noticed that I can get a free phone as well, but the phones are not worth mentioning.

Vodacom3G, please use your influence to get data bundles added to the rewards.

This was pointed out on many occasions. PPDB users just dont benefit from Talking Points.

Jawohl, Mein Fuhrer!

Actually someone else asked for this a while ago. I did take it up and it was accepted as a good idea. Probably in the product process somewhere.
 
The problem is that my talking points will be gone by the time the new ideas are implemented.

I worked for quite a while out on site last year and accumilated some nice points too at least have a look at the higher level phones available, think I was say 150 points short.

Then it was gone, gradually my points started dissapearing by the hundreds.:(
The points now expire like those voyager miles...
 
I once has 1000 talking points after switching from contract to prepaid for a year. I was planning on going to Virgin mobile but they sucked so much that within a week I was back on my Vodacom sim.

After a year, when I went to claim the points, they first tried to get me back on contract, knowing this would mean I would lose my points. Then when I told them I will go on contract AFTER I redeemed my points I was shocked to see what I could get for my R10,000 worth of points ! In the end I paid in about R300 and got a Nokia 2630 which was worth less than R1000 at the time.

Talking points are a complete rip-off. Rather go with a Topup-75 or 135 if you are on a really tight budget.
 
This reminds me of the local co-op in the Slowveld close to my weekend home...

Whenever you need something (not even urgently!) they're 'expecting delivery any day now...' Hence the co-op is generally known as a maternity hospital...

3 - 4 years ago these didnt even exist. Now they do, you get something for nothing, and it is a RIP OFF?????

3 - 4 years ago you did not get Top-up contracts and now you do. Compared to them talking points is a rip off.

Fair enough talking points didn't exist 3-4 years ago, now we have them and it's all good. The next step in this progress is to allow them (Talk Points) to be exchanged for data bundles, then start working on the airtime used to receive XXX number of points.

We must keep improving, we can't just be pleased with what's on offer forever!
 
"imminent"... damn, whenever I hear that word I Know it's just gonna be another disappointment...

However, If Vodacom gets this up and running, and giving me free data as a "thanks" for all the money I spend, I Don't care what MTN has up their sleave. i'll stick with VC then thanks.

however, if this is another disappointment, i'm heading to the other side as the points are just worthless then - nothing to keep me spending.

haha, I didn't know you could get a cellphone. Gonna go get one.
