true, parts of Port Alfred had no 3G coverage according to my Nokia 6680, but when I chose 3G Only, it was actually able to logon with a bar or two.

(yes, I am back... just thought if I can help I would)

GayTechie would like to personally thank ;-) V3G for his kind and continuing assistance in this matter. and i am sure he will endeavour to continue applying pressure on all the parties involved in order to get this resolved as soon as possible. and there is no way of setting my phone to use 3G only. there is only an option for using GSM only or 3G & GSM. contrary to popular belief im not that dumb.

I think a thank you to v3g would be appropriate..
yeah, i agree, and the radio planning guys as well, for that matter.

actually, this thread has been quite informative, in that one doesn't often consider everything that goes into getting one of these masts up

I never said you were dumb... my phone (Nokia 6680) has the same options, so I have to use NetMonitor to set it to 3G only. I want to know what you can use.

Um? i didnt know u could do that Prometheos? but mean doesnt that like sorta bugger up the phone when you do that? the software i use is the SonyEricsson PC suite, but i also use My Phone Explorer. dont think you can do it with those ones? i do get signal from the 3G enable tower, as i do get the 3G enabled cell broadcast. i guess the signal just isnt strong enough.

This thread is hilarious. What I still don't get is that there are people claiming to use 3G up to 20km from a tower. GayTechie says he's 5km away. If someone knows of a way to set his Ericsson V600i to use 3G only he might stop complaining to you and to Vodacom.
GayTechie, how far are u from the nearest 3G tower? (As the crow flies)

Can you see the tower from there? If you can, you may be able to install an antenna to boost the signal to enable you to get 3G from Port Edward. I know a couple of people in Southbroom have done this successfully...

Sony Ericsson V600 vs Nokia 6680

As previously suggested to use this application to messure your signal strength you cant actually add this to the Sony Ericsson cause it's not a Symbian phone you ccan add other applications that are java apps but not this one in particullar as for people having 3g in Southbroom they live closer to San lameer another 3G enabeled area.

I supose it's there for all the Vodacom guys who come and stay there.Hmmmmm............
P.S where did you Buy you V600 (gaytechie)

I know there is a problem with the Nokia in that if the 2G signal is stronger that the 3G one it will 'stick' to 2G even if the signal bars are all full when using 3G. The latest firmware update says that is fixed now. Maybe it's the same with the V600.
