The Poynting antenna discussion thread

I climbed up a ladder this afternoon, this is the mast as viewed from my house.

My antenna is mounted slightly left of this perspective, possibly partly obscured from the mast be the trees...

ok the trees should make very little difference to your signal.

so seems like 3 has 2 x 5 MHz in 800mhz and 2 x 15 MHz in 1800mhz. So 1800mhz should give best speeds. Are you doing speedtest via WIFI or with lan cable?

If you login to 192.168.8.1 and look under the signal stats you will be able to see your signal strength.
 
Hi Guys, I'm desperate to improve my lte signal so I can play some online games (no fixed lines and in the country) - here is a screenshot of my current cell tower details on Vodacom. Would I benefit using an lte router with one of these antennas? What would be the best antenna model to use? Any help would be much appreciated!
What app is that in the screenshot?

I am desperate to play some online games and living in the Country Side.
Best service i can get is telkom LTE (well, pretty much the only service).

Please could someone advise on the best Poynting Antenna for gaming? I know nothing about the LTE antenna world.
I see telkom data package comes with a Huawei B525 - is this fine, or is there a better router?

I have a B525 on internal antennas and considering a Poynting XPOL-1 up on a pole just above my roof apex.
The XPOL-1 spec looks terrible on Telkom's band 40 (2300) at -0.5dBi so I would appreciate any comments from users on this.

I have towers all around me and have yet to drive around and identify which are Telkom.
My tests over a few days are...

Nice, well-structured testing ... well done!

As regards antennas, remember that the XPOL-1 is an omnidirectional antenna, ie designed to give essentially uniform gain to signals being received from any direction/station. The price you pay for that is low overall gain.
If you can identify one or two stations to focus on, you may do better with a more directional antenna that gives higher gain in a narrower beam.
Have a poke around this post, and that thread in general. You should find it of some interest.
Also see here for some inspiration.

PS: Those CellID's, ie 0036073-001 -004, -011 etc could possibly indicate different sector antennas on the same base station.

I asked this in a Telkom thread but it seems not very active so here goes again.

Those big rectangular antennas which I believe are identifiable as Telkom. All have multiple cables in at the bottom so obviously many internal antennas. Of the 4 towers around me ( from 260m away to 1250m) that seem to have these antennas, few are facing me directly, so does anyone know the radiation patterns or will this vary per tower

Normally you will find sector antennas in "sets" of three, typically of the same type and mounted at the same height on a base station, associated with one operator (eg Telkom). Each of the three sector antennas is designed to provide uniform coverage over a nominal 120-degree "sector". So it should not matter too much which sector antenna is oriented towards you, as long as you can see the set.

The multiple inputs usually indicate different frequency bands that are fed to multiple antenna elements inside the same housing. Have a look at this thread and this picture, for example :

XPOL-0001 is poor on Telkom band 40 (2300MHz) having a gain of -2.5dB including cable loss.
 
After doing reserach most people who used the xpol-0001 have nothing but good things to say about it.
can public buy directly from poynting ?
 
Takelot have them, but I see the Xpol-6-10m is half the price and nearly 3 times the gain (11 dBi).
I have a Xpol-6-10m and am very happy with it.
 
With Rain launching 5G, are there any Poynting antennas that can used with the Huawei 5G router? Only one I could find was the XPOL-2-5G, would this work?
 
The XPOL-2-5G antenna includes the newer 3400 – 3800 MHz bands so yes, it will cover RAIN's 5G.

Check with @cavedog - I believe it won't work as you need 4x4 mimo which the antenna doesn't provide?
