The Poynting antenna discussion thread

I'm going to be selling my Xpol 6 10m. I'll get it down this weekend and take photos if anyone is interested. I'll post in the classifieds but feel free to get in early if you're interested.
R900 and includes 2x TS9 adapters for the Huawei B-618. It works very well though I'm 400m from the tower with direct line-of-sight so don't need it.

LOL, I have the same antenna and my new tower is only 500 meters away, also line of sight and the antenna makes a HUGE difference.
On my B315 with no antenna, with or without the bunny antennae, I get around 55 Mbps, in the mist and rain that drops to 35 Mbps.
With the antenna, any weather conditions, my speeds average 85+ Mbps and even at peak hours I still get 72+ Mbps.

I stumbled upon this thread, trying to get my Poynting Xpol-2 with 5m Cables to work.

First installed on the Roof managed to get 2 bars (spotty) (2-4mbps) now I have it 2m above roof and I am achieving 3 bars (spotty) (5-7mbps) the towers are 3km from me (There are 2), From what I read that is a small distance for this antenna.

My Upload is Terrible at about 0.04!

I'm connecting to the Cell C Fixed LTE from Afrihost.

Here are my Results if there are any experts in here to give some pro tips that would be much appreciated.

Before the new tower came to life I was in a similar situation as you where the tower was 2+ Km away with a zillion trees to get through :(
I installed a Xpol-6-10m antenna and that worked great.
You need to concentrate on the RSRP, rotate the antenna and see if that helps, move it some place else if possible.
Try and get your RSRP into the -90's at least, this will also improve your SINR which in turn will bring down the RSRQ.
Thermal noise runs at around -116 dBm so you need to get as far away from that as possible :)
Ignore the RSSI, why Huawei uses this beats me, it measures all the junk and is very misleasing.

Begin cutting trees then....even if you can get a LOS gap about a metre wide it will vastly improve things. You can also try lower your antenna so that you get below the tree branches - as long as you have a small gap through which you can see the tower it will work.
 
I have a client who lives on a farm with direct line of sight to a tower which is about 40km away. Is there any viable solution I could offer to get him Internet?

Xpol 006 or the one with more gain may just work if you have LOS. Recently in the Drakensberg I could pick up LTE on my phone from a tower 20KM away. Use this to try figure it out. https://link.ui.com/
 
This maybe of some use.
A reference of some tests done in rural za fourth quarter 2018.
No antenna, vs, "small SMA 10Dbi" vs Xpol 2 and Xpol 6.
The tower was not that far. Thus effect is not huge.

Ex > -84# -85 > Gd > -102 # -103 > Fair > -111# Poor < -112

Excel > 12.5 ; Good 10 ~ 12.5; Fair 7~10; Poor < 7

I have a Huawei B525 in my loft mounted to an XPOL-2 which is mounted externally around 1m above the apex of my roof.

My nearest transmitter is approximately 800M away, LOS is blocked by some tall trees.

I have had varying success with the XPOL-2 at 800MHZ and 1800MHZ and 4G.

I get a maximum of 25mb down and 10mb upload (usually around 17mb down) at 800mhz.

I get a maximum of 10mb down and 23MB upload at 18mhz

800MHZ

RSRQ -11db
RSRP -72db
RSSI >=-51db
SINR -18db

1800MHZ

RSRQ -15db
RSRP -74db
RSSI >=-51db
SINR -4db

On my mobile device approximately 50-100m away from my home but still 800m from the tower is get 70+MB download speeds.

I would really appreciate any advice in gaining more speed from my setup and look to you for advice.

You are limiting yourself with the bands you are using. 1800mhz generally doesn't go above 25mps and that is under extreamly good conditions.

Who is your isp?
All isp's use a combination of diffetent bands to achieve higher speeds.

Telkoms fastes band is 2300mhz which provides a theoretical speed of up to 190mbps.

Rain lte makes use of the 2600mhz band.

I should have clarified the fact that I am in the UK.

Oh, then that is a completely different ball game. Nice to know someone from outside South Africa was actually drawn to this forum.:)

@nrenz123, A few questions please.

a. Which LTE mobile network do you use?
Options: Vodafone, O2, EE.
If you use virtual GSM operators like Virgin, Three, GiffGaff, Tesco pls indicate.

b. Where is this GSM tower {please link a location on a map to the tower}?

c. What phone model do you use?

d. The sim in the phone, is this the same you use in the Huawei B525? If it is different, Please indicate answer to question in point a.

I was also surprised to find that Poynting is considered very good internationally.

Have to attempted using the Huawei toolkit to force the router to use 800mhz for download and 1800mhz for upload?
 
It could be that your phone is aggregating the 2 bands. Do you see 4g or 4g+ or LTE or LTE+?

I just see the 4g symbol.

Regarding the Huawei toolkit, where do I download it from and is it compatible with my router?
 
I climbed up a ladder this afternoon, this is the mast as viewed from my house.

My antenna is mounted slightly left of this perspective, possibly partly obscured from the mast be the trees...
