English people are F'd, no unity. The Indians might survive for a while, but not here in JHB, except the ones in Lens perhaps.Loners like me will be the first to expire. SA, have tribes/clans for the blacks, gangs for the coloureds, the Afrikaners are also well organised. So if **** hits the fan expect the lone individuals to be taken out first.

Wait, this storyline sounds familiar. I think I've seen this series before....honestly, prepping in fun pasttime up until it becomes a liability,
if the brown stuff hits the fan, people will be desperate, and will kill each other for a can of peaches
at least initially,
blood will run in the streets quite freely, and majority of us that live sheltered lives will die
just a fact,
same as if all Humans disappeared, all the poodles and sausage dogs will die first, again they wont have the strength and stamina to survive as compared to a German Shepard or rottweiler
same too with majority of people, we become very soft and not used to eating out of dumpsters and fighting tooth and nail for every little thing,
just a fact, human population, at least initially will thin out,
preppers, while initially will be quite comfortable, will start suffering next, mainly due to people knowing they have resources and supplies that others will take,
Raiders will come, and while the first few will be shot , they will keep coming and in larger numbers and with more weapons and more organized,
the preppers, will eventually run out of bullets, and unless they have a way to make more, or are able to trade commodities to get more, will find themselves outgunned, especially if people know they have resources and food,
so unless the preppers are extremely well hidden and well supplied with ammo, and supplies to last a good while, and have a way to replenish stocks, and can build on that momentum, might survive the initial onslaught
then it becomes a marathon and not a sprint, on how they survive next,
do they have enough skilled people to maintain the defenses? Guns/Walls/traps ect, do they have enough people to sustain a community? will they die from old age, diseases or a coup from within? do they have a way to grow and take in survivors to bolster skills they dont have?
so many questions and lots of chance involved if they survive in the long term.
stories might be some entertainment, but nobody knows how people will react when the power goes out and NEVER returns.Wait, this storyline sounds familiar. I think I've seen this series before....
Seems to be more than half of the Western Cape now confirmed offline. Something very serious has gone wrongOur power went off about an hour or so ago. Apparently, it is quite widespread. All the way from Macassar to Grabouw and beyond. I haven't seen any notices from the municipalities. It has been a while since our power went poof up in smoke.
Even my fibre is out... Hmmm.
I guess I am prepping for a braai day tomorrow, er, later today.
Allegedly, the fault is on the Eskom mainline, but the private security informants seem to say that information on the current situation is hard to come by. Could be due to the time.Seems to be more than half of the Western Cape now confirmed offline. Something very serious has gone wrong

City of Cape Town says the blackout is an unscheduled network failure. Crews are addressing localized grid damage and substation trips. Electricity remains reported off in Strand, Hermanus and Tolleysbaai, and the outage has reportedly spread along the grid line to Strandvale. Several substations may be down and some plants are off in Caledon and Hermanus; the cause remains unconfirmed. A screenshot shares reports of a widespread outage across several Western Cape towns, with a follow-up saying it reaches Oudtshoorn.

• The Overstrand/Gansbaai Grid: A major 132 kV breaker tripped at the Houhoek substation, which instantly cut power supply feeding down into Gansbaai, Stanford, and Hermanus.
• Cape Town & Surrounds: At the exact same time, a primary high-voltage transformer and transmission line failure upstream plunged Cape Town's northern and western suburbs into total darkness.Because these faults happened on the highest levels of the transmission grid, it completely bypassed local municipal controls and caused an immediate, synchronized blackout over a vast geographic footprint. When multiple sub-grids collapse simultaneously across separate municipal borders (Overstrand, Theewaterskloof, and City of Cape Town), technicians have to carefully isolate the primary fault line first. If they try to turn whole towns back on too quickly while the high-voltage grid is unstable, it triggers a immediate "loop trip"—which is why you may experience the power flickering or dropping immediately after a brief restoration. The highly specific, widespread footprint of this outage points to severe upstream stability issues or a cascade trip on major bulk-supply transmission lines, knocking out different sub-grids simultaneously.
Oudtshoorn is currently experiencing a widespread power outage following a circuit breaker trip on Eskom’s 132kV line.
Oudtshoorn Municipality says Eskom technicians are currently on site investigating the cause of the outage.
An estimated time of restoration (ETR) has not yet been established.
The municipality says further information will be communicated as soon as it becomes available.
This is probably grid instability finally catching up to Eskom, and the ripples are much worse in the Western Cape, since we are furthest from the major power plants, so first affected by a big grid wobbly,This was reported from the Oudtshoorn Courant four hours ago,

Then, about two hours later, large parts of the Western Cape went out.
I am curious if parts of the Eastern Cape are out...
How can a single breaker cascade like this?
The only people who seem to have power from the grid in my area are those living adjacent to the hospitals. Specifically, those around Vergelegen. I can't see how they would still have power if this is a cascading event. Maybe the people forgot they had backup power. I won't be surprised.Looks like malmesbury and most of the swartland are out as well, all the way to Clanwilliam up the west coast
