Okay, you seem a bit dim on top of being ignorant, so let me spell it out for you, pitty I cant use crayon...

You complained that why is there STILL a discussion on race on SA sports team selections, I answered that by saying you're ignorant of the issues faced by our sporting codes. The next post you said "which player"? And I laid out an example for you where the Selectors could have made a decision BOTH for the good of the team AND increasing a demographic in the team.

I'll refrain from resorting to insults in my response.

You seem to have turned my post into something you wanted it to say. I am asking why it is felt that a team that is number one ranked in the world actually needs changing. Why should the fact that not enough players in the team are black even be an issue! They are performing. If they weren't then we could, and should, be asking questions.

The American population is not made of of a majority of black individuals yet the last time I watched their dream team basketball team most of the players were black.

Tell us why you feel there should be more black players in the team? Surely a team made up of individuals who were born in this country (for the most part) and call themselves South Africans is enough for a team to represent the country.

Well Clint, quite simply because for generations people of color were prevented for playing for this country. You may not think that not a big issue, but it is, it even tricled down in lack of support for our teams. You still get people to this day that choose to support NZ in rugby than support the SA. Cricket took hard decisions for the sake of transformation in the early days and we lost a LOT of talent because of it, KP comes top of most minds. But boy did it work, IMO.

Its time for more decisions to be made and the great thing is that they wont be as painful as before, there are a couple of Black players capable of holding their own at international level. Two from the Lions and a couple further from the Titans.

We need to get this country to be all inclusive in all aspects, the hands off does not work and the hands on approach does, you need only look at the number one side you want left alone for proof of that...

I do agree with you, but you can't just dump someone of colour into the team for the sake of it. Who do you replace?

As someone mentioned before, it was just as hard for Faf to break into the team. Guys like Amla and JP were given extended opportunities in the team, with mixed results - Amla improved to get to where he is and JP has been a bit up and down. Philander took his opportunity and made it count, and there is no way that he will be dropped or be seen as a quota player simply because of his performances. Likewise, Ntini's last 2 years were pretty mediocre, and he kept new people from entering the team. He was given an extended run to improve but did not, yet nobody mentions this.

I'm all for playing a black person, but he will need to perform better than his peers. Which is pretty much the case with a white person too. So I'm not sure what the big deal is, as long as we're winning, that's what matters.

The point about Thami being screwed over is true. But IMO he should never have been picked and contracted in the first place, primarily due to his age. He was given false hope by the selectors and that is not on, regardless of whether he was black or white.

A captain by any other name should manage just as well. That must be what South African cricket thought when the process to replace Graeme Smith as limited-overs leader began in August 2010.

Two and a half years on, they have been through four captains but have not found a long-term replacement. The search for someone who has security in team position, aptitude, and the willingness to do the job full time is still on, as concerns grow about AB de Villiers' suitability. It is something South Africa have to address seriously as they plan for three ICC events in three years.

Amla, like Jacques Kallis, obviously wants no part in captaincy. In being largely left alone to play his own game, Kallis has given South Africa more than any other cricketer. Amla may do the same. In which case he has to lose the vice-captain tag. He probably won't even notice its gone.

It should probably go the way of du Plessis, who has emerged as a candidate to take over the main job too. Du Plessis was a captain at school level and a former leader of South Africa's A side, and seems to enjoy the extra responsibility.

Promoting him, maybe even above de Villiers, should not be seen as an insult to de Villiers or Amla. It should rather be seen as responding to the changing times. When de Villiers was put in charge of the limited-overs teams he was not the Test wicketkeeper and his concerns about the captaincy had not been developed. Circumstances and experiences may require a shift in policy.

A decade of Smith meant that South African cricket had not had to debate about another leader for most of that time. Even when doubts about Smith started to emerge, it was always clear that he had the ability to lead and the presence that would prompt others to follow him. In two weeks' time, Smith will captain South Africa for the 100th occasion in a Test match. He is undisputedly the best captain this country has had, and if they want another like him, sensible decisions must be made to find one.

The whole article is worth reading, if nothing else but to spark debate. Not everyone may agree, but I think that Firdose Moonda puts across a really well thought out opinion.
 
I never saw captaincy in AB. I thought it was the wrong decision when it was made.

Same here, but if not him, then who? You need a strong personality to lead, which is why Smith was a good choice. But out of the current team I don't see anyone else. Faf seems a bit too shy so I'm not sure that he's a good choice either.

He certainly wasn't shy when dishing out (verbally) as good as he got from Kyle Mills in the World Cup...

+1. AB might not be the perfect candidate but he was the only real candidate, as Amla and Kallis turned it down. You need to pick someone that is an automatic choice for any your ODI team when fit. Thus it came down to Duminy, AB, M. Morkel, Steyn, and more recently Robbies.

For me it's simple but I'm having a discussion on another forum and the majority would rather have prior :confused:

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday named its preliminary squad of 30 players for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament to be played in England and Wales in June.

The final squad of 15 will be named later this month.

Rilee Rossouw of the Knights is the only player in the group yet to represent the Proteas in any format while Henry Davids of the Titans and Chris Morris of the Highveld Lions have not played in an ODI before.
