Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the appointment of Russell Domingo as coach of the Blue Label Telecoms T20 squad for the summer series against New Zealand and Pakistan.

Domingo will lead the squad for three T20I’s against New Zealand over the Christmas period and the two scheduled against Pakistan in March 2013.

This was what Gary wanted, and why he labeled his position as 'team director'. He'll be back for the ODI's and Tests. Domingo did well with the Warriors, and it will be interesting to see how two coaches work with (mostly) the same group of players.

And now he's been pulled from the game so that he can turn out for the Cobras. Seems like there wasn't a lot of communication between agent, CSA and Cobras. Not a good advert for us.

Going to be interesting to see what happens. NZ definitely a stronger prospect over the shorter format of the game.

And yes my money is on a tough T20 series. Easier ODIs and us to take both tests.

A possible very non-PC post coming up.

Interesting reading an article on cricinfo in which a "golden era" of test cricket in SA is discussed and then further down there are the usual moans about the lack of black players in the test team! Surely the fact that we are number 1 and have not lost a test in our last 10 outings last year should be enough proof that the best team has been chosen and the colour of the said team should not make a flippen darn f-ing difference (yes, it really does piss me off!).

If you want to focus on performances and lack of diversification in a team then surely the soccer team should be in the spotlight. They are **** and the majority of the team is black. Where are all the white and Indian players? Or is it the usual scenario where something is made successful and then only then do the politicians (and yes, I mean black folks here) suddenly take an interest in it as they want their slice of the pie?


The numbers may seem to say it all - except that nine of those ten Tests were contested away from home. It marks South Africa's best period in the longest format, and they have the Test mace to show for it.

The masses were also denied in a more telling sphere. No black African (the race group that makes up over 80% of the South African population and accounts for more than 40% of active cricketers at all levels, including club and school) took the field in Test cricket in 2012, an issue that was exacerbated by the Thami Tsolekile debacle.

Talk is rife about implementing legislation to change the lack of representation. CSA's acting chief executive, Jacques Faul, indicated the matter would come up for discussion at the board meeting in January. It is a worrying issue because what it really says is that for all South African cricket's progress in the last 12 months, the biggest step it may take is backwards.

+1 Clint.Is not enough that we have non white players already representing us and Amla, Alviro, Robbie, Duminy, Phily and now Kleinveldt are all match winners.
Its only a matter of time before black players,if good enough, will be chosen on merit.

Why force the issue and shove average players in just for the sake of immediate transformation.
 
It really peeves me! Faf, as only one example, had just as much difficulty getting into the team and was considering a contract in the UK with an option to play for England. There are only 11 players. You are always going to have plenty good players missing out. It is not about race! Thami was up against Boucher and now AB! Those are players very few, if any, in the world would be capable of replacing.

Its always very sad when fans that are clearly ignorant of the issues post such rubbish. If you have been following SA cricket since re-admission you know that damn near all the current non white proteas were in the start of their careers labelled not good enough? Amla being a great example, when he first started and was struggling with his technique, people on THIS very forum said he is not good enough for the Proteas and is just in the squad because he is non white.

And you do know there TWO white guys in the soccer squad for AFCON? Last time I checked white people are only less than 9% of the population, so they are over represented there. Only Indian players there have no representation.

So please, STFU in future unless you have something constructive to contribute...

Name this black player (and I mean proper black, as apparently non-white is not good enough suddenly) who should be a definite in this team and at whose expense. As clearly stated, there are only 11 places in the team so to add one you need to remove one. Tell me who, in this number one ranked team, should not be there and why his replacement deserves his spot. Other than he is black!

It is your kind who makes every racist out there think that any black person that makes the team is a token choice and does not deserve to be there.


EDIT: Actually, let me be controversial then, sox63. You're a self proclaimed expert so maybe you can explain why the supposed "white" sports in this country do relatively well (rugby competing in the top 2 places, cricket at number 1) yet the black sport is wallowing low in the rankings. You could possibly point out the "priviledged" lives that whites have lead and access to facilities blah blah blah... but then surely that would be admitting that they are indeed the better players. Development needs to start at primary school and not at international level. Of course, doing the graft at the lower levels gets the politicians none of the attention they crave so they could not be bothered putting in the hard yards. Imposing quotas is so much easier and more attention grabbing!

I never said you're racist, unless you figure "ignorant" means the same thing. Also, when it came to the Tsolekile, the matter is well documented, selectors PROMISED him a shot at NZ and then back tracked because AB is stubborn and feels he can do both jobs. I follow him on twitter and he was complaining about pain in his back after a physio session so much so he missed a autograph signing session. The Selectors SHOULD know better and not be dictated to by players.

Maybe you should STFU if your whole view is based on the tweets of one player. When you have a spot in the change room and can tell us first hand what was discussed then I will listen to you.

And if Thami took a "promise to play" as gospel then perhaps he needs to up his business acumen... where the hell in the business world is any deal done on a "promise".

And I asked you a few direct questions which you again conveniently ignored.
