The Proteas - Our Team!

If Japes plays, I really hope he fires. He's been out of form in the longer format (at international level) for so long it gets harder to justify his inclusion. He bring some much needed stability to the middle order (when in form) and there are few who are so adept at shepherding the tail as he is. Probable starting XI (alternate option in brackets):

1: Cook
2: Elgar
3: Amla
4: Du Plessis (c)
5: Duminy (van Zyl)
6: Bavuma
7: de Kock (wk)
8: Philander (Morris)
9: Steyn
10: Rabada
11: Abbott

van Zyl and Morris would be two very worthy and able replacements but unfortunately, it would upset the political apple cart somewhat. Not that Philander and Duminy aren't merit selections, but both are gambles due to the one being out of form and the other coming off a long injury lay-off.

Duminy and faf aren't merit selections. Faf is being picked because of captaincy and being ab's best bud and jp on political grounds. Neither should be in this squad if it was based on form.

Also you need a spinner, pitch is like to be dry and take turn.

My team based on the squad selected:

1.Cook
2.Elgar
3.Amla
4.Faf
5.Van Zyl (will be duminy thought...)
6.Bavuma
7.QDK
8.Philander
9.Steyn
10.KG
11.Piedt

Viljoen makes immediate impact for Kent

It was the sort of impact county fans rarely expect of an overseas player, least of all one that drops in for the latter part of a season, with little international credibility behind them. But Hardus Viljoen, on Kent debut, became on their fourth bowler to take a five-wicket haul this season, as his 5 for 55 helped dismiss Gloucestershire for 221 in their first innings. It was the South African's 20th fifth-wicket haul in first class cricket.

It is a stint that will provide something beneficial for Viljoen as much as Kent, who are looking to keep the pressure up on Essex at the top of the table, ready to pounce from third if any stutter is forthcoming.

South Africa A won by 5 wickets (with 21 balls remaining) http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/1012769.html

National Performance Squad 287/7 (50 ov)
D Pretorius 32/1 (8 overs)
T Shamsi 68/2 (10 overs)
TB de Bruyn 33/1 (10 overs) :wtf:

South Africa A 288/5 (46.3 ov)
DA Miller 124 (104) not out
DJ Vilas 45 (39) not out
MQ Adams 44(52)

Good to see Miller get runs.

Dale Steyn reclaims the number 1 test bowling spot

Dale Steyn has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test bowlers' rankings after picking up match figures of 8 for 99 in South Africa's 204-run win over New Zealand in Centurion. Steyn went up two places in the rankings, leapfrogging R Ashwin and James Anderson, to become No. 1 for the first time since December 2015, when he suffered a shoulder injury during the Durban Test against England.

The other two members of South Africa's pace attack in Centurion also climbed the rankings, with Vernon Philander going from 13th to 11th, and Kagiso Rabada from 30th to 27th. Faf du Plessis, who scored a century in South Africa's first innings, jumped from 33rd to 24th in the Test batsmen's rankings.

South Africa's 1-0 series win, meanwhile, lifted them from seventh to fifth in the team rankings, which meant they swapped places with New Zealand, who now sit a place below sixth-placed Sri Lanka.

South Africa A cruise to third place

South Africa A 1 for 209 (de Bruyn 90*, Miller 72*) beat National Performance Squad 207 (Short 70, Harper 60, Pretorius 2-20, de Bruyn 2-37) by nine wickets

A solid all-round showing from Theunis de Bruyn helped South Africa A clinch third place in the A-team quadrangular series in Australia without much bother. They bowled out Australia's National Performance Squad (NPS), which had chosen to bat, for 207, before cruising to their target with 11.4 overs and nine wickets to spare. De Bruyn first took career-best figures of 2 for 37 with his part-time medium pace, before batting through the chase for 90 off 119 balls.

David Miller also fired for South Africa A, hitting his third score over fifty in the tournament to power the team home in an unbroken stand of 135 with de Bruyn.

But most of the damage to the NPS was done in the first innings, when only three of their batsmen got into double-digits. Things looked bleak for them when they lost both openers cheaply and also lost Sam Heazlett on 35 to injury, but respectability was added to the total courtesy fifties from middle-order batsmen Sam Harper and Matthew Short. For 19-year-old Harper the knock of 60 was a second successive fifty, while for 20-year-old Short his 70 was his maiden List-A half-century. There was no support offered from the lower order, though, and the team was bowled out in 48.3 overs.

Alongside de Bruyn, fast bowlers Dwaine Pretorius and Andile Phehlukwayo also picked up two wickets apiece, but Pretorius was the most economical of the lot.

CSA sets selection targets for national teams

South Africa's national men's team will need to field a minimum average of six players of colour, of which at least two must be black African, in their XI effective immediately, in order to meet their transformation targets. The instruction was confirmed by CSA's board at their AGM on Saturday and follows confirmation in July that all national teams will be obliged to meet targets as part of what CSA has termed a drive to transform "aggressively," and "make cricket a truly national sport accessible to all."

The targets will not be imposed on the XI in every match they play but calculated on an average basis over the season. That means that South Africa's selectors will not be strictly bound to that combination all the time, but if there are some matches where they do not meet the targets, they will have to compensate in other games.

"With the targets being measured over the full season and being cumulative across all three formats, our selectors and team management will have the flexibility to deal with varying circumstances," CSA president Chris Nenzani said. "This shows very clearly that the targets are very attainable and sustainable and we will maintain the world-class standards that our players regularly produce."

Once can argue that Bavuma and Rabada is there on merit, when one of them gets injured or loses form it is going to be a charade.

Yeah, was wondering about this too. The only other three black players I can think of off the top of my head in consideration are Phangiso, Leie and Ramela, the first two being spinners and the latter being a batsman. The next year is going to be very interesting!

It's not going to difficult, Ramela is knocking on the door right now for the spare bat because van Zyl is not performing. And bowling wise, you're forgetting Phehlukwayo who is an all rounder as well

the joke is fun and all, but the Ausies have a bit of a spinner problem ATM, they are almost all out injured. of just straight up left out of the team.

this series is going to be all pace all the time. trying to get tickets for the wanderers game, and I plan on going to the centurion and Benoni games as well.

I figure AB and Hash only have maybe 2 or 3 years left, let me get a chance to see them perform well before they retire...

I am also planning to go to Wanderers, should be fun.

I doubt we want to prepare seaming pitches with the likes of Starc in their line up. A fair pitch with something in it for everyone would help us. Tahir and Shamsi would be a handful for them

Hmmm, I don't know much about that attack tbh, still play it safe and don't give them pitches they would be happy on. We have Tahir in the starting line up and they have Zampa and with all due respect to him, would serve us a lot better.

nah. I say the two teams are the best at the world at seam bowling. give them the conditions that are well suited for all the bowlers.

because remember, the 438 game was supposed to be a seamers dream pitch....

plus we cant have England hold the record for the highest ODI score now can we?

pink game at the Wanderers, we win the toss, send them in first, they tare our attack a new one and score like 445.

QDK, Hash and AB go in score a 100 each, AB breaks his own record, and we win the game on the last ball wiht a 6 from Morris.

that is the game I want to see. I know it wont happen, but man would that be amazing to see.
