a year or so ago when everyone was calling for Domingo to step down I stayed quiet.

he is not very hands on with the players, or he would have known about Abbot planning on leaving. (I know this is not fair on Domingo)
I do not think it is a bad thing.
he lets the expert fielding coaches handle fielding drills same for batting and bowling.

Domingo is there to be a obervation station for the selectors. the capitain is there to get the personal feel for the players and what headspace they are in.

has Domingo done anything wrong? no not really. has he done something spectacular? no not really.

should he keep his job? it doesnt matter.
making him reapply is inconsequential. the board and the selectors drive their own agenda anyway, so who the coach is does not matter.

if some new coach comes in, he is not going to take a team with 11 new caps that are all development projects to the world cup, he is going to take the team that we are seeing and preparing now. every single game we play, across all formats is leading to the world cup.
even the IPL games, are our best talent scouting out opposition, and actively playing against them or with them.

AB learning about Kholi's tactics while he plays under him means when the final is SA vs IND and the showdown between AB and Kholi happens AB has an edge, he knows Kholi's mind, Kholi does not know his.

that is why I am so glad AB (and the rest of the Guys) play in the IPL.

the IPL shows the public of South AFrica what new talent the rest of the world is scared of.

Our recent successes are more due to Faf than Domingo...

not arguing.
I honestly believe the only job the coach has is to appoint good specialist staff, and be the face in press conferences.
who the coach is means very little.

and I am not backing or bashing Domingo here, I am saying who is in that position matters less than we make it out to be.

but if someone can point out something Domingo personally had influence over that cost us a game, I would be happy to change my song.

please note Domingo does not have 100% of the say in the match day team, or in the squad selected. Domingo does not personally have the ability to to make sure the right length is bowled in the game, or that the runs are scored that we want to score. so poor performance and a bad team cannot be blamed ONLY on him.

Viv = 90.20
Amla (currently) = 89.23

And back then, 90 was like 110 today, after the advent of T20. But not taking anything away from Amla, as he seems to be a calming influence on the batting line-up, still one of the top 3 SA batsmen I've seen since 1992.

 I probably missed the guide-dog waiting on the side of the field for Kohli :p.

A coach however has a very important role of motivating players, installing the right attitude and discipline and setting a standard of what is expected both performance wise and work ethic wise. That is why him not being or having been a professional cricketer himself, does not make him an ideal candidate for the role at all, because unless he is a professional life coach he has no experience of what playing at the highest level requires.

Technical skills etc is the role of the batting/bowling/fielding coaches.

Faf was a "stand-in" captain

Exactly, you'd think that after being as successful as he was, compared to what AB was before he got injured, the switch would be a no-brainer.

But NO, don't let logic get in the way of the entrenched SA conservatism.

I am a big fan of Faf for captain in every format (he is already test and T20 capitain)
and I am a big fan of Faf as our number 4 (though JP should bat at 4 in every format that he plays, and he shouldnt play tests)

with Faf not being capitain, we have a slot that can be opened up. for a quota player to prove they are good enough, for an extra bowler moving an all rounder up the order.

I would love to see Faf capitain the ODI squad permanently. but at the same time, having AB keep the title means he has more drive to get us the cup in 2019. they are both really good as captain, I think Faf is better and was calling for him to be the ODI capitain before Miller had his first game as an IPL capitain last year...

Surely you're not suggesting dropping him because he's not captain.

Does anyone know how the distribution of funds work for these IPL auctions? I.e. how much of this fee actually goes to the player, how much to his cricket board(agents 10% probably)?

And tax implications but I think it's a bit retarded that Morris gets so much and Shamasi so little.

Morris is still nat agter die ore imo.

I would not agree with that assessment. It's very much the opposite. Although I think Morris got way too much anyway.
