A pity he decided to exclude himself, but he can't say the selectors didn't give him a decent run to keep his spot over QdK.

The thing is a large part of that run he was given was in India where no one covered themselves in glory. A real baptism of fire. But yeah, he's well down the pecking order now so I can understand his move overseas.

Injured Ngidi ruled out of ODI series
http://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/Proteas/injured-ngidi-ruled-out-of-odi-series-20170127

Cape Town - Proteas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka with a left abdominal muscle wall injury.

Ngidi sustained the injury during the third T20 international against Sri Lanka at Newlands on Tuesday and will need 3-4 weeks to recover.

"Lungi landed awkwardly on his left hip while fielding during the 3rd T20 International against Sri Lanka on Tuesday," Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

"Subsequent scans confirmed an abdominal muscle wall tear which will rule him out for 3-4 weeks. It is a sensitive injury because the abdominal wall is highly loaded during the fast-bowling action so full recovery is important before he can resume bowling at 100% match intensity.

"He will follow a thorough rehab and treatment plan to give him the best opportunity to return to full fitness."

Ngidi’s availability for selection for the latter part of the ODI series against New Zealand will be subject to him passing the required return-to-play protocol.

Ngidi will not be replaced in the squad.

:crying:

I was reading this article

and that got me thinking.
in terms of fastest to 3K runs. current number 1 is the big hash in 59 matches.

QDK however has played 69 ODI's and currently ha 2850

so he wont beat Hash (seriously 59 games, the man is a legend)
but he might beat Viv Richards. who is in second place on 74 matches.
QDK needs 150 runs in this series to beat Viv
Kholi took 79 matches to do it...

^, reminds me...I was watching India-England highlights and Kohli's T20 stats were put up on screen. ****ing hell...the combination of average and strike rate is insane.

Is anyone else averaging over 50 across all forms?

He's a machine! His wicket is AS prized as those of Tendulkar, Kallis, Lara etc were. You must surely feel as a bowling side that if you can get him cheaply, it's half the battle won.

I do not disagree. he is a machine, arrogant, but pure class when in the field.

your list was missing Amla and warner and McCullum though, I am sure teams are as happy to see the back of any of those players.

and QDK is heading into that category quite quickly.

the thing is. in Kholi's last 100 odd ODI, he has scored 4000+ runs. it took him 78 matches to get to 3000.

if QDK goes at his current pace he will get to 8K runs faster than Kholi as well as 3K,4K,5K,6K and 7K

we really need to keep an eye on QDK, he has potential to be the greatest batsmen South Africa has ever produced.

Yeah, no arguments here at all.

What is QdK now, 23? If he plays for another 13 years (maybe gives up the gloves as he gets older), he can smash ALL records. Highest run scorer, most hundreds, fastest to whatever run amount. Can't wait to watch!

Qdk and Rabada are the main reasons I have hope for the proteas over the next few years. As the veterans retire and political practices take hold of the selectors more there will always be those two.

Who knows maybe some of the other new talent keeps the hope alive. But after 2019 there will be a rebuild again

Your stats are out - if you check the list - and the innings is the important stat, not matches.

3k runs:
Amla - 57 innings
Viv Richards - 69 innings
Kohli - 75 innings (78 matches BTW).
De Kock - 69 innings (and matches) - 2850 runs so no chance of taking second place.

CSA to recruit new coach after England tour

Russell Domingo will have to reapply for his position of South Africa coach if he wants to continue after the England tour in May-August 2017. Cricket South Africa (CSA) have confirmed they will begin a recruitment process to appoint a head coach after the England tour and through to the 2019 World Cup.

"The Board of Directors also resolved to commence the recruitment process for the appointment of the Proteas Head Coach to take charge after the tour to the UK until after the 2019 edition of the ICC World Cup," CSA said at the end of a release about a review into domestic cricket.

I'd be interested to know what Amla's strike rate is compared to the great Viv.

That about the only thing that would make Viv have the more prestigious rep.

Pretty much the same but there's more to it than that. 2 World Cup wins with a match-winning century in a final, the way he played in an era where bowlers could be way more intimidating than today - Sir Viv is a legend.

Yep but that's not the be-all and end-all of it - that very limited, limited overs specialist Michael Bevan has 2 of them :p Hash is definitely a cut above the likes of him.

2019 is our year ;)

Can't compare an opener to a number 6 batsman, Michael Bevan was the best ODI finisher in his era.

I would love to see what Toyana can do at National level imo. But I have a feeling this process is just a formality for the reappointment of Domingo because his contract has been extended twice already
