1.Logic - "move away from the one coach and franchise that has been consistent and stable to your development over the years, then move the one of the most unstable team environments over the last couple of seasons"

Very questionable reasoning!

2.Three quotes Chaiperson, CEO, Head Coach from the side, but zero from the player.

Very questionable reporting!

Verdict - Standard Naspers-Media24 junk journalism!
Ya maybe he just wanted to move to his home franchise.

Perhaps. Or maybe the most senior African cricketer in our domestic cricket Omphile Ramela(arguably the most educated Professional sportsperson in South Africa right now as well), was gatvol with Cobras after last season and decided to come back home (Gauteng). In the process he asked his junior colleague "mfondini how about we switch, you'll be happy to spend time with family and friends, plus Cobras will jump at having you, never mind the fact that you'll hardly play for them:crylaugh:", and Temba was like "Cool :D".

Lions head coach Toyana is probably a little bit peeved, as are the Lions management, so none are quoted. Western Cape people are master "spindoctors-disaster management agents" so no second invitation for them to put a spin to it. It should normally be hard to get all three top figures from the province to give an opinion. Not here.

Anyway we've gained Reeza, hopefully Ramela to be confirmed. Cook will lose his Proteas spot, so will probably take up a Kolpak contract soon. Lions will still look good though. Plus once in a while we can brag with Rabada.
Reeza Hendricks
Rassie
Ramela(c)
Dominic Hendricks
Conway
Pretorius
Mosehle(wk)
Phangiso
Jamison
Beuran
Myoli
RESERVES: Nicky, Mulder(AR), Fortuin(AR), Leie, Pongolo

Nicky batted no.4 this season and Fortuin was the best bolwer in the list A and T20.

My Team Hendricks look like this.

Reeza Hendricks/ Cook (Cook CSA contracted till next year april)
Rassie/ Cook
Dominic Hendricks (c) Lions best batsman, been at the lions for years
Nicky van den Bergh (Toyana seems to like Nicky at no.4) + wk when Mosehle is playing T20 for Proteas
Ramela
Pretorius/ Mulder (when Pretorius is playing for Proteas)
Mosehle(wk)
Fortuin
Beuran Hendricks
Hardus Viljoen (franchise can play 1 kolpak player)
Rabada (when Pretorius is playing for Proteas) Jamison/Pongolo or Phangiso

RESERVES:
Myoli not seen a lot from him but Pongolo can bat.
Leie not the same after injury :(
Phangiso looked unmotivated this year.
Matt McGillivray will play in the T20 cup
Carmi le Roux not seen a lot from him
Devon Conway
Wihan Lubbe was played as the 2nd spinner in the list A cup.

I was more biased towards FC. I see you're conflating FC with the hit & giggle stuff and it's muddying perfectly good points.

In terms of skill & experience Fortuin is far from the level of Leie and Phangiso(an excellent international toher countries would jump at). We must never forget that a lot of these players' Provincial stats make them seem better than they really are, and this is the case with Fortuin & Lubbe who are average. Although Fortuin's allround abilities make him a good investment. All of Lubbe, le Roux and McGillivray have a lot of work to do to be decent FC players.

Conway is better than Nicky, but a case can be made to say "Listen Mangi your FC game hasn't been at the required level for seasons now, stick to ListA&Twenty20" but then Transformation targets get in the way so Mangi stays. No way Dominic is a better batsman than Cook & Reeza.

We don't need Viljoen.

Plenty saffers in that lineup. Elgar at No 1
Elgar is angry. Just as Amla's anger at being sidelined from the T20 side spurred him on to being the best Proteas T20 batsman and ultimately got him in to the past 2 IPLs which he's been great at, maybe Elgar wants to get into that ODI side. I'd have him ahead of Miller(since Farhaan & Duminy bowl).

Come to think of it, Kallis was also furious he was left out of the Proteas T20 he took it out on the IPL plenty of times with great success. Didn't quite come right for the Proteas T20 side when he finally got reselected.

Our beloved deserter Rilee Rossouw, fresh from avoiding a king pair for Hampshire by just one ball in the previous game against Essex, then followed up that performance with another duck against Sommerset today. Very familiar trend with him though 0, 0, 0.

"first person to be run out for a golden duck on ODI debut"
"Rossouw became the second cricketer to bag golden ducks in first two ODI matches"
"made five ducks in his first 10 ODIs"

Meanwhile Kumar Sangakkara, who will retire from cricket this season, has just completed his 5th consecutive century for Surrey!

Rilee will have to pack up his bags and come home. Having a nightmare time in the UK.

Abbott on the other hand is the leading wicket taker by quite a stretch.

Rabada and Tahir are the number 1 and 2 bowlers respectively, while we have four batsmen in the top 10 (Amla, AB, QdK and Faf).

Since all we need is just one specialist seamer to share the new ball with Rabada*, clearly then our problems are in the middle order only.

1.Amla, 2.QdK, 3.Faf, 4.AB, 5., 6., 7., 8., 9., 10.Rabada, 11.Tahir

The fact that positions 5-9 are responsible for cancelling out 6 world class top 10 players has to be down to selection. There can be no other explanation.

Think about it - no other team in international cricket has player rankings this high in ODIs. Surely this has to shape our own selections. How different or significantly superior to the CSA think tank are they? If India or Australia for example had that rankings dominance and they weren't runaway favourites for every tournament they enter, their public would be asking questions.

NB:*Strangely Domingo has said Morkel is a reserve seamer.

1st unofficial ODI: England Lions v South Africa A

The revered Jon Jon Smuts flops again! Used up an equivalent of 5 overs for his 15.

Theunis de Buyn didn't cover himself in glory either caught by the keeper for 3.

Reeza Hendricks' stock as opener continues to rise. On 73*, his second 60+ score on the trott.

Bavuma who in honesty should have opened alongside him is there 22*.

Captain Zondo and Kuhn will have a lot of work to do if South Africa A are to beat these England Lions.

NB: I really don't see the logic in opening with Jon Jon considering his questionable technique and temperament for the role. If the general consensus was that we don't want Bavuma as an option to open in ODIs, then surely they should have picked Aiden Markram to open ahead of Jon Jon, with Bavuma at first drop. TdB not wanting to and uncomfortable opening meant he would have been much happier at #4. The reality is that squad has four ODI openers (Kuhn, Markram, Bavuma and Reeza). One is on the bench, the other two are batting lower than 3, while unsuited options are in that top 3.

Almost forgot about this tour, thanks for the reminder. Not sure why Bavuma is batting in the middle order if he is the heir apparent to Amla's spot IIRC by Domingo's statements before he debut against Ireland.

Pleasure. It's a very important Series in the scheme of things. Fairness dictates that it will decide players next in line for the Test and ODI side so I'm keenly watching the FC and List A matches against the England Lions. It's even more of a barometer considering our first bi-lateral series after the CT will be in England against England.

T20s being 21 June, and first Test starts 6 July.

Rilee Rossouw's rot continues 0,0,0,13 and now 17 in the current game for Hampshire against Warwickshire.

Another Southern African import(Sean Ervine), got a double hundred, also in the same match.

Let's see how Kyle Abbott goes. He's been brilliant for them so far. Warks have Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott(that other Saffer) in their line up, so big wickets to be had for Abbott.

Ryan McLAren lived up to his 30 batting average for Lancs against Yorkshire. Will be disapointed with just one wicket after getting th enew ball. But it was a huge one, another Southern African Zimbabwean Gary Ballance - the closest thing to remotely challenging Kumar Sangakkara's unbelievable batting.

Injured Ngidi withdrawn from SA 'A' tour http://www.sport24.co.za/Cricket/injured-ngidi-withdrawn-from-sa-a-tour-20170608

Cape Town - Proteas fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been withdrawn from the South Africa 'A' squad for the remainder of their tour of England as he has developed a back injury.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that no replacement will be made.

"Lungi has developed a bone stress reaction in his back, which is not an uncommon injury in young fast bowlers," explained Dr Shuaib Manjra, chairperson of the CSA Medical Committee.

"He will return to South Africa and undergo further assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for this injury by the CSA Medical Team. We will not be able to give a timeline on his likely return to the game until we have made a further assessment," concluded Manjra.

The South Africa 'A' squad suffered heavy defeats in their only two completed games, losing by nine wickets and 144 runs, as they lost their three-match unofficial One-Day International (ODI) series 2-0 to the England Lions.

SA 'A' are now preparing to take on the Lions in a one-off, four-day match starting on June 21.

They have two warm-up games ahead of that clash, starting with an encounter against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton starting on Thursday.

South Africa 'A' squad for four-day series against England Lions:

Heino Kuhn (Titans), Aiden Markram - captain (Titans), Theunis de Bruyn (Knights), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Khaya Zondo (Dolphins), Jason Smith (Cape Cobras), Heinrich Klaasen - wkt (Titans), Wiaan Mulder (Highveld Lions), Rudi Second (Knights), Dane Piedt (Cape Cobras), Dane Paterson (Cape Cobras), Duanne Olivier (Knights), Junior Dala (Titans), Beuran Hendricks (Highveld Lions)

Lonwabo Tsotsobe, once ranked the No.1 ODI bowler in the world, has been banned for eight years for his role in the 2015 match-fixing case during the Ram Slam, South Africa's domestic T20 competition.

He is the seventh player to be sanctioned under the CSA's anti-corruption code after Gulam Bodi, Alviro Petersen, Thami Tsolekile, Jean Symes, Pumelela Matshikwe and Ethy Mbhalati received bans ranging from two to 20 years.
