SHAMSI OPTS OUT OF NATIONAL CONTRACT

JOHANNESBURG: Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Proteas Men's spinner Tabraiz Shamsi have today jointly announced that the 34-year-old has decided to opt out of his national contract, effective immediately.

The move will allow Shamsi, who has played 51 One-Day Internationals and 70 T20 Internationals, greater flexibility to participate in various leagues around the world while maintaining his availability to represent South Africa across both white-ball formats.

CSA respects his decision and remains confident in his continued dedication to South African cricket. Furthermore, the national body looks forward to his future contributions to the Proteas and Momentum Multiply Titans.

“I have decided to opt out of my central contract in order to be more flexible during the domestic season, allowing me to explore all opportunities available and look after my family in the best way possible,” commented Shamsi.

“This will not impact my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas in any way and I will always be available to play for my country whenever I am needed. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup home to South Africa, and no franchise league will ever be more important than playing for my country.

“The Titans are also fully supportive of my decision, and I will be a part of the Titans squad whenever I am available.

“I would like to thank Enoch Nkwe, Rob Walter and Dr Jacques Faul for their advice, support and open communication through this process.”

CSA Director of Cricket, Nkwe added: “Shamo is a key member of our white-ball squads, and while we respect his decision, we are pleased that he remains committed to representing South Africa.

“We sincerely appreciate his honesty and openness on the matter, which is integral and what we want from our players.”

Some guys are deeply offended that he would dare to say that he wants to become the greatest ever. Apparently having a dream is frowned upon.

Imagine we all verbalised our dreams? So cringe, more so when the dreamer suffers delusions of grandeur.

Dream all you want but keep it to yourself till you've actually achieved it.

Ps not offended, just embarrassed for him...

Well, he has more than a few ahead of him in that queue - if he can learn to play a proper disciplined game, without blunting his very obvious, talent, he might well do it.

Imagine you were asked for your dreams as a 21 year old and you said your dream was to be average. How sad would that be?

He didn't say he wants to become. His words was he will. One comes across as ambition and the other arrogance.

Why's it sad? It's honest, modest and realistic. And satisfying when one day you could say you exceeded your dreams.

Imagine how surprised people would be when you turned out to be well above average?

Better to undersell than oversell. Cause when you fall short you'll look like a massive twat.

And he will fall short. He will never be spoken about in the same breath as Bradman or Lara or Warne or Murillitarian.

And that's why it's embarrassing.

Time will tell.

He is already the top scorer in a U19 WC, holds the fastest 150 in T20 and highest T20 score in SA. If he can build on that he might just yet become one of the greats. Id rather have him dream big than be happy just being average.

Edit: i see he was domestic one-day player of the year last season too.
