While the democratic system has delivered political freedom for black South Africans, the economic legacy of apartheid still endures. Poverty, inequality and joblessness amongst black South Africans, in particular, is pervasive. Recently released unemployment data by Stats SA confirms that unemployment amongst black people sits at 31%, while the rate for coloureds sits at 22%. The rate of unemployment for whites is at 6%.

Over the last five years, South Africa has witnessed the rise of open and crass racism. From Penny Sparrow and Steve Hofmeyr, to Dianne Kohler-Barnard; from the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) to AfriForum, black South Africans have been assailed by racist forces hellbent on undoing the illusion of a rainbow nation which many have worked hard to inculcate in the black masses. I say black masses in particular because their economic situation belies the notion of a liberated race.

How is it possible that black people are still victims, considering that they make up a complete majority?

We have had a black government in total control of SA since '94?

It's always been and always will be an IQ thing, but I don't think we'll ever be able to truly talk about it so in the meantime we'll perpetually run in circles chasing out tail and there's nothing we can do about it, except maybe get out. Even then you'll be blamed into perpetuity (see Haiti for an example).

On a rabbit trail but Haiti and the Dominican Republic makes an interesting comparision, considering they are both on the same island but completely different fortunes.....

There's +-58 million people in S.A, 80% of them are black, that's 46.4 million black people, 31% is unemployed which means a total of 32016000 does have work, that is a lot!

You simply cannot compare coloured and white people to the mass amount of black people in the country, white people barely even makes a dent in the overall population, there's unemployment in every single country on earth, get use to it!

Also, keep voting ANC, things will get better for you, I promise. ;)

Well, they (ANC) have no clue how to run a country. They are stuck at being liberation party, so they are out of their depth. They sold the country out ... yet remain in power. Blame ANC, not apartheid!

And yet, voters keep on voting them into power.

It's a hopeless case... if people are stuck to the past (Anc = liberation = must vote for them)... we will never progress.

Correct. Haiti is a very uncomfortable tale about what happens when you leave sub-Saharan populations on an island paradise with one of the best law etc. systems at the time (inherited from the French of course), then let it all just simmer for a very long time and see how they compare to the european colony right next door.

The crazy part is I still see people claiming that Haiti's problems stem from the French.... absolutely insane.
