The alternative is the American football style where every call is reviewed and reviewable.

The level of refereeing in professional sports is greatly improved from what it was 5 / 10 years ago and it can only get better. As long as there is a human element it will always be erratic

The refs should have performance reviews after the games, and they do as far as I know, but this should just be a bit more public.
We can all accept a ref might have a shít game. That is fine. Obvious bias from the ref is not.

The main problem with referring at the moment is that that cannot be criticized.

Scored a seat in the box for the Ellis Park game, Boks v Pumas. Supplier sorted me.

2 Bok games in 2 years. Lucky me.

Last Ellis Park game I was at was Lions v WP when the Lions were in their pomp. Sat behind the posts.

Lucky you, enjoy! I haven't been to a rugby game at Ellis Park in ages. Just don't like the area. The stadium is great though.

Team for Saturday has been announced

Springbok team to play Argentina: Willie le Roux, Cheslin Kolbe, Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Manie Libbok, Grant Williams, Duane Vermeulen, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Marco van Staden, Marvin Orie, Eben Etzebeth, Frans Malherbe, Malcolm Marx, Steven Kitshoff.

Replacements: Bongi Mbonambi, Trevor Nyakane, Vincent Koch, RG Snyman, Kwagga Smith, Faf de Klerk, Lukhanyo Am, Damian Willemse.

I think Ruhan Nel should be there ahead of Kriel but let's see what Jesse does.

Kriel needs to go, for a while now ..... and Libbok again, ooof
What exactly is wrong with Libbok and beside what other options are there? He's a little green, but there is no doubt plenty potential.

I'm happy as long as Willemse never wears the 10 jersey again and that stupid experiment is dead. He was a borderline 16th player for the ABs last game he was so out of position nullifying his own teammates, both on attack and defense.

Willemse is the classic example of how no mater how much talent you have, if you haven't got the grey matter between your ears to use it, no amount of coaching or anything is going to change it. He just does not have the mind to be a flyhalf.

I'm not sure about the constant push for Kriel as 2nd option for outside centre. Boks have always been at their best with an outside centre who marshals the defence, Am, Jacque Fourie etc. Regardless of any debate on his ability or lack thereof, one thing he doesn't do is marshall the defence from that 13 channel, so why him?

There is no doubt that Libbok has heaps of talent and could be great. I feel though that sometimes he is a bit erratic and prone to silly errors. Also, he's kicking can be inconsistant. Pollard in contrast brings a bit of piece of mind, calmness and kicks better.

Pollard brings alot of experience, only natural he would bring calmness. Covid really did make a mess of things in that regard, much time was lost wrt the natural development that would have happend, had we not lost 2+ years of Bok team develoment between covid lockdowns and NZ/Aus shutting us out (Squidge actually did a good analysis on this, we've had less time to prep for this WC than most other teams thanks to NZ/Aus nonsense locking us out for 'covid' reasons while still playing against eachother ect)

As for kicking issues. That does appear to be a trend among players who decide to play for WC over the years/decades, many players have who had incredibly accurate boots during youth develoment (even at WC) or who played elsewhere, just seem to suffer after opting to play for WC/Stormers. I wonder why (genuine question, incase not clear)
