Early Christmas present.

Good news indeed. Not to be horrible but there are much better quality locks in the pecking order.

What are folks thoughts on the 20minute red card rules?

Personally, like the concept, but the execution is dumb, same how rugby nonsensically has the double yellow equals a red copy from soccer when rules for cards are worlds apart.

Just keep it simple stupid imho.

Single yellow infractions (10minutes off sin-bin)
Double yellow infractions (twenty minutes sin-bin)
Red infractions (sent off rest of the match)

A player must be replaced after received a 2nd yellow (whether as two seperate single yellow or a single double yellow infraction)
Players cannot be replaced when receiving a red

Single yellow is current yellow card rules (what gets a yellow now)
Double yellow infractions for the stuff they making get '20 minute red'
Red infractions all the stuff red cards were originally about, grossly egrenious behaviour.

Make it easy for fans to follow and understand, a red card meaning two different things on the pitch is just silly. People already confused what's going on with 20minute red and that just the announcement of the rules, just look at how off the mark the French concerns are, missing how 20 minute red card doesn't mean 'full' red no longer exist.

Maybe I've missed it, but my understanding is that under the current trial all reds are 20-min reds?

Exactly my point, the confusion is rife, been very poorly communicated, as this is not the case, media making an absolute meal of it.

Yes, the carded player is gone for the rest of the game but the team can bring on a replacement after 20 mins.

Not for ALL incidents. The really egrenious stuff like foul play, punches, fights, etc, are still full reds. edit: the 20 minute reds about how much rugby has evolved, the new rules against head clashes etc, things that are bad, yes, but they not on the same level as what reds were always originally about, and trying to balance it after the dramas at the WC.

Like the confusion/fuss people made about lineout rule, that you could just throw it skew to scrumhalf and all that noise, but wasn't accurate, still against the rules.

Oh...that's confusing as all hell :X3:

Same as the scrum law changes everyone went crazy about, yet, not nearly the impact the media made it out to be, with also, many implied things, like giving away free kicks to avoid scrums, yet that in itself is against the rules already, and would continue to be.

Media don't miss a chance to stir up issues and profit off it unfortunately.

Son busy studying coaching, rules etc, so had my nose in the books with him, the misperceptions and nonsense reporting by media has been ridiculous, but then, WR don't do themselves any favours making things way more complicated than they ever should be.

So how does a player know whether they've received a 20-min or full red?

If this is the way they want to go, they should rather go the hockey route with green, yellow and red cards. Just for interest for the non-hockey players in our midst, hockey cards are also shaped different (green = triangle, yellow = square, red = round) to accommodate for colour blind.

Good news for the Bulls. Sanity prevails.

The Vodacom Bulls felt vindicated as a Vodacom United Rugby Championship disciplinary committee rescinded the red card given to midfielder David Kriel during Saturday night’s win over the Ospreys in Swansea.

The card, which perplexed many and created a lot of debate on social media, came as Kriel attempted to hand off a defender and instead ended up striking him in the throat. While the ref and assistant referees both thought the hand off was ok, a string of television replays and a baying crowd convinced referee Eoghan Cross to review the incident and stunningly handed Kriel his first red card of his career.

While coach Jake White and several other commentators believed it wasn’t worthy of a card, it forced the Bulls onto the back foot, but they regrouped and still won the game 29-19.

If this game was played on paper, the Sharks will win by 50. What a line up!

Hollywoodbets Sharks team: Aphelele Fassi, Eduan Keyter, Lukhanyo Am, Andre Esterhuizen, Makazole Mapimpi, Jordan Hendrikse, Jaden Hendrikse, Phepsi Buthelezi, Emmanuel Tshituka, Siya Kolisi, Emile van Heerden, Eben Etzebeth (capt), Vincent Koch, Bongi Mbonambi, Ox Nche.

Replacements: Fez Mbatha, Trevor Nyakane, Ruan Dreyer, Jason Jenkins, James Venter, Grant Williams, Siya Masuku, Jurenzo Julius
