So Marcel and Aphelele gets the boot but then they go and dig up the fossils Frans and Duane.... Sigh :cautious:

I'm convinced now we will never see a Springbok team that plays good running rugby.

The Bok ladies went down 15-6 to Japan earlier today. Disappointing result. They look so good against African opposition but were made to look rather ordinary against a well coached and organized Japanese XV. Lot's of work to be done...

Plumtree and Moar axed. Crusaders and Fiji forward coach Jason Ryan is brought in.

Apparently, the changes were made after consultation with the players. Strange that those two got contract extensions just last year then.

The Boks also had about three defence coaches under Coetzee, and things improved only after he left. Although, I still think things could have been different if JN had stayed as defence coach and Coetzee was allowed to pick overseas players.

Red-card Law to be retained for Rugby Championship

Sanzaar have decided to unilaterally introduce the controversial “Red card law” for trial in this year’s Castle Lager Rugby Championship, where teams who get a player sent off have the option of replacing him after 20 minutes off the field.

The law, which was trialled in Super Rugby Pacific earlier this year, saw a flurry of red cards and no real change in player behaviour, and it is strange that the law is to be introduced with the full backing of all four rugby nations for the Rugby Championship.

Of course nobody likes to see a lopsided contest, or a game ruined by red cards, and referee and TMO consistency with regards what constitutes a red card should probably be more in the spotlight, but the unintended consequence is that teams can get away with a red card and not suffer a game-altering event with the introduction of the law.

There are arguments to be made on both sides of the trialled law and the flurry of red cards in Super Rugby Pacific hardly helped the matter. But World Rugby, who face a bunch of lawsuits from players suffering with dementia, have decided to make the game safer and the head high shot is already a massive talking point in a game of collisions when a split second decision may get things wrong.

The law was trialled in last year’s Rugby Championship but had little effect on the big games and teams obviously believe that a 15 v 15 contest is greater than any possible negative effect it can have. While some laws have changed the game - the 50-22 and goalline drop-out have been successes thus far - the debate still rages on the red card law.

Thoughts?

I'm for it!

Tired of watching spectacles ruined on the back of over zealous officiating.

You cannot regulate the brutality out of the sport. It is what it is.

Time for the powers that be to develop and mandate protective headgear.

I'm worried about balancing the spectacle fairly for the entertainment and crowd with making enough of a censure for brutality, so I do like measures such as mandated protective headgear.

The timing of the cards are also important. Its a very different situation in the first 60 minutes and the last 20 to get a red card.

I'm loathe to suggest it, because it could just exaggerate your concern of overzealous officiating, but maybe points penalties should also be considered.

Where can I listen to afrikaans radio broadcast of the Springboks vs AllBlacks game, like in the good old days?
I don't have DSTV but I do have internet radio
