Plenty of pace in the backline. The slowest backline players overall are de Allende and Pollard in this lineup. Fassi needs to step up now. You'd think Willemse is still the guy for the next RWC and Willie is very unlikely to be there so Fassi is the main backup, it seems with Q Horn as the safety should there be a bit of an injury problem.

Eben may yet play

Apparently if he gets through today's training session unscathed and in no pain, he will be selected.
can they make a change after already announcing the team ?

or is it only official x minutes before kickoff ?

I'm sad that Grobbelaar didn't make the cut this time, because I rate him, but he did not perform the best in the abysmal weather in Perth with regards to lineouts. But its fair that he is still behind Marx and Bongi.

Pretty sure they can chop and change as and when. As far as I know, there's no official law stating that once a team is named, that is the team that must play. Unforeseen and last minute injuries, niggles or illnesses are part and parcel of sport. This policy of not selecting a player if they're not fit on Monday is a Bok one and can easily be overridden in the right circumstances.

Agree that Eben will make a huge difference if hes fit he should be in there

from what we've seen from rassie on the inside, hes quite honest and open with players when it comes to selection so i dont think any players will feel hard done by. this team is above that i believe

im also aware of the rationale of rassie to name teams early its been discussed quite a bit. and i love it.

Most sports you need to submit a team sheet shortly before the game starts. You can make changes as much as you want up to that point. For cricket, it's at the toss. Not sure exactly what the cutoff for international rugby is but can't think it'll be more than an hour before kick-off.

Yeah. Remember the Twickenham test, a player got injured in the warm ups. Hence the 7-1 bench going into that fixture. NZ name their side on Thursday. Rassie could be playing games with Ebens 'fitness' but it's unlike him to. Anyway...

Slippery slope playing the injured game if a player is not really injured.

I do believe he needs to be managed. He played longer in Perth than initially anticipated.

Scott Robertson has named his team for Saturday

New Zealand: 15 Beauden Barrett, 14 Will Jordan, 13 Rieko Ioane, 12 Jordie Barrett, 11 Caleb Clarke, 10 Damian McKenzie, 9 TJ Perenara, 8 Ardie Savea, 7 Sam Cane, 6 Ethan Blackadder, 5 Tupou Vaa’i, 4 Scott Barrett (captain), 3 Tyrel Lomax, 2 Codie Taylor, 1 Tamaiti Williams.
Replacements: 16 Asafo Aumua, 17 Ofa Tu’ungafasi, 18 Fletcher Newell, 19 Sam Darry, 20 Samipeni Finau, 21 Cortez Ratima, 22 Anton Lienert-Brown, 23 Mark Tele’a.

We should have the edge up front but that is a potent backline, not to mention Mark Tele'a still on the bench.

I don't buy that we have the edge.

Their scrum was powerful in that final and we got shoved backwards only for Wiese to deny them posession.
