the glass half empty approach to Manie is really poor...

We scored 7 tries on saturday, 4 of them while he was on the field and if memory serves me correct he had at least one touch in each of them.

come now.

yes he has kicking deficiencies, but the bok game is now geared towards a more attacking ball in hand style that he fits into like a fricking glove.

what im saying is that there are way more positives to having him in the team...
Time will tell if he sorts the kicking out, but kicking alone is not a good enough reason to drop him when he can make it rain tries

the glass is more 3/4 full than half so to speak

People are taking his 'perfect number 10' game on the back of easy and Bok dominant games. Every game against tough opposition that required bmt, he was nowhere and not just with kicking. He's a Jantjies - all show and flair in the easy games ... not what is required in the team at all.

Can't find his kicking stats for the 2023 RWC but this season he is around 42% from the kicking tee.

That's problematic, to say the least.

If you pick Manie, you need to pick a goal kicker too. That's also problematic.

The criticism is fair IMHO

60% in the 2023 RWC.... 2 from 5 against Scotland, didn't play against Romania, 3 from 3 against Tonga, 1 from 3 against Ireland, 2 from 3 against France, 1 from 1 against England..

5 out of 5 vs New Zealand in the Twickenham test...

The higher the stakes, the more he quakes, where Pollard absolutely thrives in the pressure situations. BMT I think they call it...

Exactly this. When he isn't required to make the difference, general the game when parity between forwards, he shines, but the moment that pressure piles on, he unfortunately tends to go missing each time.

You could just look at average points.

Manie Libbok: 5.22 per match.
Handre Pollard: 9.80

Some others for comparison. Keep in mind these are not only points via the tee but tries scored as well.

Morne Steyn: 10.91
Naas Botha: 11.41
Jannie de Beer: 13.92

Elton Jantjies: 7.20

Against Argentina, yes, against the All Blacks and Ireland, no. Then you need every point you can get.
I mean Manie missed a kick in front of the posts to win the game.

What the Manie fans dont get is that the future test matches that will really count... the tight ones in finals or World cups... will NOT be decided by running rugby or show-off-nolook-passes. Those tight games will be standard Bok rugby... forward domination and penalties will be key.

We might be winning some games handsomely against the weaker world teams in the future with Manie-Tonyball rugby... but that's about it imo.

Interesting stat about Libbok too, when look at detail of his kicking accuracy, his conversion of tries rate is quite a bit better than his conversion of penalties.

Linky?

He tends to miss the relatively straight forward ones and slot the ones on tight angles. That's the irony.

His issue is mental.

Soon as the shot clock was introduced his accuracy went off. Maybe a flaw in his technique, where he takes more time than average to properly set himself?

Either way I hope he improves drastically.

I've said numerous times, all that stands between Manie and a 100 test caps is 80% kicking accuracy.

Look reading this thread it is obvious that you and a few others know absolutely nothing about rugby/sport, So let me just help you.
You comparing a guy thats been playing international rugby for 10 years with almost 80 caps to a guy that has been playing for less than 2 years and has less than 20 caps.
Do you even think before you type?
Pollard missed plenty kicks right in front of the poles when he was a young Springbok.

So let me just get this right.
You comparing flyhalf's points per match, that played in Springbok teams that played 10 man forwards and kick gameplans to a flyhalf that now play in a team that try to run the ball and score tries?
