I think the mayor needs to be a person who is a life long politician, but the city manager needs to be a strong person with good experience at that scale of enterprise.

Yeah Gayton and the PA want real power not the puppetry the ANC and EFF offer. If they got a mayorship they'd do real damage. They want access to power and resources. The ANC dont want to share that and are just being forced to share with the EFF but won't share with smaller parties.

He is right, You should see the guy criticizing other party leaders, you'd swear he started and ran a very successful party. But I think the Purple Cow was always a DA project.

Its main objective was to steer the Maimane faction out of the running. Even Kanthan Pillay now acts as though the party never existed and all seem to have warmed up to the DA again.

It also seems to have had links to the IRR as Unathi Kwaza was part of it and this was around the same time the IRR published that piece saying that Maimane should step down as well. Not sure why a think-tank would have been so invested in DA affairs.
