They did make effort to reach out to the Indian community in KZN. It could be that other race groups also are not making much of an effort to join just as other race groups (apart from small sections of the Cape coloured community) are making effort to join the VF+.

To be honest joining a party shouldn't be an effort, the effort should be on the party to make people see the benefits of joining them, they should be attractive to members and voters, if I still have to worry about the tribal factor, the fact that the leader might want to stay for 20 years in power, the fact that only his anointed favourites like Hlengwa will rise in the party and they will handpick their successor then something is not right.

Their mindset is still very far away from being a competitive party, the new resurgence is all about reclaiming the Zulu support they lost to the ANC because of Zuma, they are going nowhere after that.

Yeah, they also have serious problems over the leadership. IIRC, Buthelezi tried to retire (he is probably just a face now and does not do much) but it got so ugly when they needed to pick the successor that he had to come out of retirement to restore sanity.

He is 95 years old this year so they need to resolve this soon. If not, they could be in for another breakaway party when they don't have a choice. He does seem pretty strong so while I won't be surprised if he makes it to 100, he should not be involved in politics then.

I just don't see anything changing in the next ten years, I doubt that being more inclusive and growing out of the Zuluness even forms part of their discussions as a party.

Perhaps they want zulu speaking people as part of registration? Our glorious leader, Peter Marais, will accept even native americans if they can talk afrikaans. We have no nonsense non-racial non-ethnic criteria in our organization.

That's actually a very reasonable explanation, anyone is welcome, as long as they are prepared to assimilate into our culture.

Maybe. But if they manage to break into areas like Eastern FS and some minority areas, then they must be doing something right, regardless of leadership composition.

What exactly does break into mean? Did they manage to do something they have never done before in the Free State?

Try to quantify it for me if you can, it will be interesting to see.

For starters, they're actually contesting by-elections for the first time ever in FS (Dihlabeng). (Which says to me that they're confident to get support there in a non-IFP region)

And what I mean by "break into", is if they at least get a substantial base or if they manage to sucker punch ANC like in KZN and parts of MP and GP.

I am sure the DA will have no problem in voting to remove Ahmad, it's who comes in after that, that's going to be a problem, it looks like the other parties of the Moonshot might want to corner the DA into supporting a non DA councillor for mayor.

Yeah, it's not the DA's problem that all the other anti-ANC opposition parties are effectively to stupid to understand the perils of "working" with the PA...

I mean usually flip-flops take months to happen but in Joburg it only took a few weeks for PA to flip-flop over the mayor they partially elected.

It seems rather once again, they're trying to corner DA into working with PA...
