Let's just wait for it but it will not be Gayton. They are going to find someone timid with no position and conviction who will just go with the flow, not a disruptor like Gayton.

Also look out for Colleen Makhubele, she has the right persona for the job, they might elevate her to mayor and get another speaker.

Colleen would probably be worse than Gayton if you ask me... she has all the hallmarks of being utterly destructive for her own personal gain.

As for him making the ANC look bad, I very much doubt it... he would be placed in the Mayors chair but have much of his power curtailed if you ask me. I would very much question any of the claims that Gayton made about service delivery in the Karoo.. the bits and pieces I saw looked like lipstick on a pig really.

If its not Gayton, it will be someone just as useless as the new ex-mayor.

He is honestly not the type to be controlled and tod what to do, the ANC should be fully aware of that.

Colleen has confidence and experience, which is what you need for the position, while not being a threat to the ANC.

With COPE's uncertain future she is a perfect middle ground, someone who is thinking about their future and livelihood, not someone like Gayton who can afford not to take the mayoral salary, a person who is not desperate will be dangerous to the ANC.

I would say Colleen has bravado rather than confidence. The experience part I can't speak to though, just the small bit of what happened with her in CoJ indicates to me that she is very much in the "Fsck everyone else, this is about me" frame of reference.

I reckon Gayton is looking smug as he's been offered a juicy payday to stay on side with the ANC and EFF. Politics' version of Markus Jooste.
