DA MP Cilliers Brink chosen by DA, coalition partners as Tshwane mayoral candidate
The DA has chosen member of Parliament Cilliers Brink as its preferred candidate to be nominated as Tshwane mayor. News24 understands that a meeting held by the DA and its coalition partners on Tuesday saw the party present Brink as the final candidate selected.
Former mayor Randall Williams resigned last week, pushing the DA and its coalition partners to seek a replacement. Brink currently serves as an MP and was a councillor in Tshwane before moving to Parliament in 2019.
News24 understands that most of the DA's coalition partners confirmed their willingness to support Brink. Brink still needs to win most of the support from the Tshwane council before he can be elected as mayor.

Haha, apparently Beaumont hates Brink because Brinks trolls him on Twitter. Shame...if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen (also as if Beaumont doesn't engage in his own trolling of the DA).

The proposed aims of the Bill include the following:
  • Mandating that NERSA must establish a fair compensation scheme for feed-in tariffs across the country – by establishing a minimum percentage level of compensation to be paid to a consumer in relation to the ordinary electricity tariff. This is to ensure that feed-in tariffs are not unfairly lower than the ordinary tariff rate;
  • Investigate the waiving of all ‘net consumer’ policies, through a blanket requirement that credit or tariff offsets must be provided when a solar panel user feeds more electricity into the grid than they consume. This will be done in accordance with the provisions of Section 217 of the Constitution; and
  • Require that municipalities must provide and/or facilitate bi-directional meters for feed in tariffs, thereby allowing more consumers to feed electricity generated from rooftop solar back into the grid.

If we extrapolate these results and check where the 600000 Dominee voters would come from...

They're aiming for 32% of the vote, minimum...

If BOSA manage 1% of the vote in any specific province, or even nationally... I'll buy a round at my local drinking hole.
 
Activist Zackie Achmat to stand for Parliament in 2024

Activist Zackie Achmat will stand for National Parliament in the 2024 general elections.

Achmat, who accepted the endorsements of 50 voters, announced his candidacy on Tuesday.

He said the proposed Electoral Amendment Bill will, in 2024, make it possible for candidates not affiliated with political parties to stand for election.

The Bill regulates the contestation of elections by independent candidates.

Achmat vowed to lead ethically and hold political leaders accountable.

Achmat said: "We will not wait for the state. I will assist people in installing solar energy in homes, schools, and clinics. We can establish community gyms. At the street or block level, we can help women who run crèches with early childhood development education and infrastructure," he said.

Interesting, DA supports BIG but the BIG must be conditional. Everything else is part of the budget they do/give on Wednesday.

They've impact assessed the current budget and can take a whopping 5 billion (!) out of that VIP protection racket. Impact assessed meaning, a viable and realistic allocation will still be budgeted.

What level do I need to be in the ANC to get the X5 cavalcade service for the daily run to the KFC drive-through? Is it cabinet, or are mid-level municipality functionaries getting this?
