The SA Politics Thread Part 3

They like people they can control and we all know voters who go to the VF+ are not really lost to the DA, the Freedom Front will do the right thing and unite behind the DA.

Right now, VF+ are too small but I expect them to grow gradually. When more members come in, people are bound to be tempted by money and that's when internal politics starts. Right now, they just don't have the numbers for internal politics just yet.

Remember the one guy from VF+ served as a minister under Zuma. If they get more numbers, more of that sort of thing will happen.

Also, when the VF plus has a go at DA, it's the only time DA criticism is tolerated for some reason.
Their relationship is as complicated as that of the IFP and the KZN ANC when it comes to the bond of Zuluness they share, I doubt you can ever find something where Buthelezi directly criticise Zuma for all his thieving ways, he can deal with the ANC but he just cannot deal with one of his own who is in the ANC.

Buthelezi is 95 years old. I doubt he has much involvement in the running of the party. He is more of a ceremonial figure really.

I think Hlabisa and to a lesser extent Narend Singh call the shots.

He has never done it even before he was 95yo and when he was still an active leader of the IFP, there is a healthy respect between the two of tiptoeing around each other.

Poor Hlabisa cannot even have his face on a T shirt, I doubt he is allowed a to have his own direction as a party leader.

IMO, no party can really save KZN anytime soon. The problems there are very deep. I think IFP or DA ruling it won't make much difference anytime soon.
You can replace the KZN with RSA. Same boat, same problem.

Yeah, Buthelezi wanted to retire but had to come back because of the lack of respect to Hlabisa. They really need to solve that sooner rather than later.

Definitely. WC has always been lost to them, so it wouldn't be surprising. But that KZN and GP score...

Tbf could an IFP/IFP coalition gov be that much worse than ANC rule there in KZN?
It will be different, fornication in the offices won't take long because the IFP will know that they have to get back to work.

In an explicit leaked voice recording, the IFP councillor is heard negotiating a position at the municipality with a worker.

Shortly after the conversation, rummaging can be heard and, after a brief period, the councillor is heard saying he completed a sex act quickly.

And unlike the ANC where there are many bulls causing confusion, there will be only one bull that mates with all the cows

In the recording, Maphisa used a Zulu analogy, suggesting he was the main bull in the kraal and the "main man here".

In the analogy, he stated he was the only bull with balls and, as such, all cows only have the authority to mate with him.

Results of by-elections yesterday:

IFP still blikseming the ANC in KZN. Took the ward outright and went up by 27%.

ANC holds. DA went up by 12%. EFF lost 4%. ANC still seems strong in EC.

ANC holds. Big loss for DA. Sadly, the gangster party went up by 24%.

I see that Wayne Sussman described all the wards as rural and thus we can now understand and predict with a high degree of certainty that in voters with a high percentage of coloureds (as Kou-Kamma ward 5 has), PA will do well. Urban coloured wards will be more challenging for the PA to penetrate as their manifesto/views are unlikely to be so enthusiastically adopted (as one can see, for example, in urban coloured wards in Cape Town where the PA did not really make its mark).

How long before ARETA merges with EFF?

I honestly don't think Carl is mentally stable. He will be a liability to whatever party he joins so the EFF may not even take him. Carl really thinks he will do well. I'm won't be surprised if he has reached out to the EFF and formed ARETA as they did not offer him a good enough job.

Paywalled.

The IEC is apparently going to investigate Good about a donation of R900 000 that was not declared. Shaun August, former national organizer of the party, denounced Good at the IEC on Monday. He claims Good failed to declare the direct payment of R900 000 by a donor to a supplier of party advertising material.
According to August, Brett Herron, the party's secretary general, should have declared the donation to the IEC, but this did not happen. The donation was apparently made to Good in September 2021 after August negotiated with a supplier in KwaZulu-Natal regarding the purchase of party clothes and marketing materials for the local elections in November 2021. The donor apparently paid the supplier directly.
