The SA Politics Thread Part 3

We really do not need and should not have a "pro=western" policy. We need something neutral. The ANC's foreign policy as it is on paper is solid but they aren't exactly neutral as has been proven by recent events.
Yes, we need a policy that is good for South Africa. I wonder whether the ANC love affair has anything to do with "help" during election years? Makes you wonder....

The point is that pro-west policy is not good for SA either. The DA's foreign policy is also very flawed.

The ANC under Mbeki and Mandela had a much better foreign policy than the DA's. It neither put off the West nor places like China, Iran etc.

The Democratic Alliance threw a hissy fit about the NHI, but their alternative 'Sizani Universal Healthcare' looks like it was written by matriculants with crayons (hint, hint), where we all get universal subsidies regardless of need and where everyone with an itch can go to a dermatologist.

Just sent an email about a collection of potholes on a road since the storms to the municipal transport department.

Let's see how quickly they respond and address the problem. I expect fast service from the DA...or I will badmouth them on SA's most popular forum! :p

I know how die-hard you are in support of Helen Zille, DA and Pro-West involvement.

ZIlle said the "legacy of colonialism is not entirely negative". Would that also mean the legacy of Chinese involvement in the world is also "not entirely negative"? I mean, if not for the Chinese, fewer people would have access to smartphones (a large section of Mybb use Chinese devices also) than if Western brands entirely dominated the market or can the "positives" only be spoken about if it is the West for some reason?

So what specifically do you take issue with in this Sizani Universal Healthcare idea?

(I am in no way shape or form advocating their solution as better than the NHI since I don't know enough about what they're proposing)

I don't like China because they don't attach conditions to their loans, which allow African leaders to continue their poor governance (to put it politely). I don't support communism and I believe the replication of China's governance structures across the world is akin to supporting totalitarianism and the gradual realisation of a global police state. On balance, I believe that China brings more disadvantages than advantages to the world.

Well, but do you think the legacy of Chinese involvement is "entirely negative"? We know the evils they do, that is undisputed and we also know the evils the West did and does yet many will say like Zille that their legacy of colonialism is not "entirely negative".

I think to say one is entirely negative and the other not makes you a hypocrite.

Nah, it's just for some odd reason the minority think they are the Boss of this country, they think they can tell us who to be friends with, what to do and what policies to follow, and they act all surprised when the majority flexes their muscles and tell them to get lost.

The phenomenon of a minority who thinks the majority should be dancing to their music is a strange, proudly South African thing, it has never happened anywhere.
You will be very surprised when “the minority” turns very quickly into the majority once their electricity, water and now healthcare is taken away from them. Believe it or not, even “the masses” benefit from a still functioning private healthcare system.

I guess it's not entirely negative as they do build infrastructure in countries where no infrastructure would have been built if the Chinese weren't there.

Start a protest impacting traffic on highway then loot the stationary trucks. Question is why with the "new improved" coalition is there even a protest, are the people not getting what they were promised ?
The quick answer is that we are just a nation of thieves. Would be stupid to not make use of such opportunities when they present themselves. And then sometimes we have to make those opportunities.

- The 'universal subsidy'- vague, nonsense, unrealistic
-The whole plan for the South African health system is barely 10 pages, large font- poorly written- reads like someone's matric essay submission.

The DA can kick and scream all they want- but they dont have a workable plan for addressing the health system.

So this nebulous universal subsidy concept may be problematic without a doubt, but that doesn't necessarily invalidate many of the other points in their plan, many of which deal with "fixing" the currently broken healthcare system... and that is the fundamental thing tha needs to be done. Fix the current healthcare system and then find ways to expand it and bring it closer to a version of NHI and do so without removing a persons choice of where to get their medical care.
