The SA Politics Thread Part 3

The only problem is that I don't think the IFP’s share of Gauteng is going to help the DA much in Gauteng, they have like 1% or so, the DA needs a 10% party to make a difference.
EFF then, right? Unless our future president already ruled them out of moonshot.

This looks promising. I need to reignite my dormant links with CIC.

If the IFP have that little support then by your own admission that can't be the reason they support them.

So, looking at the 2019 vote, the ANC and DA both lost about 3%. Biggest gains were made by the EFF and FF+. The IFP have a single seat in the legislature. The ANC and EFF will comfortably rule in 2024 even when the ANC drop below 50%. They'll need to lose more than a combined 12 seats before they need other parties.
I don't understand why it can't be the reason, they have obviously done their polls and saw how useful the IFP support can be in Gauteng, they are also planning forward with their eyes on eThekwini in the next local election. So to be seen to be selfless now and supporting the IFP can pay dividends in future.

They have obviously overestimated their chances in Gauteng as well as overestimated the decline of the ANC, but that's how they roll, and don't be fooled by all the tough talk, working with the EFF is still not off the table so that's what makes the IFP 1% not totally worthless.

They have worked with the EFF before, or they have worked alongside it, whatever they want to convince themselves they did, that can happen again.

The ANC will not need EFF, at least next year.

If they do need help, they will go to the likes of PA, Al Jamaah etc. If they fall short, it will be by less than 5%, meaning they won't need DA or EFF.

Malema believes in the principle of "no permanent friends in politics". He will support whatever suits his business interests at a particular point in time. If that means backing Steenhuisen,, he will as much as many will say he will never support a white president.

Sure the ANC would prefer to avoid the EFF if they can but there are national implications. And mind you, there's a good chance Mashatile is president in 2024 and he is acceptable to the EFF as he's part of the Gauteng ANC gang.
They will still work together even when they don't need to, Malema will just not have the power he usually has over them but it will be done and championed by the pro Mashatile camp and used to send a message to the Moonshot.

True, it is unlikely they'll lose enough to lose the province. And Lesufi's vote buying might actually work so they increase their vote share. All those jobs, initiatives etc are all called Amapanyaza-something or other. He is winning and the people he's winning are people who stay home rather than vote different so his strategy is working from what I've seen. But nationally the ANC may need the EFF and Gauteng have bent over backwards for the EFF so may well work with them even if they fall a bit below 50%. I am not sure how their won't serve under the ANC charade would work as there's no way the ANC allow installation of a puppet premier like they do in the metros.

Next year will be interesting.

Malema's long-term plan is also to get to the Presidency via a re-merger with the ANC eventually but if EFF declines next year, there may be a lot of questions asked within of his leadership.

But he can potentially dodge news about possible EFF decline by going into coalition with ANC in a few places and claiming that he is taking the project to its next stage.

Tony Leon lasted 13 years as leader of Official Opposition and I don't expect Malema to last that much longer without serious questions being asked.

Jobs galore mense, with the leadership of Gwamanda and Panyaza, Gauteng and Joburg are going to be great again.

That useless DA never did anything about the Alexandra rats.

Eh? This was without Action SA (which did not exist) and PA having not made inroads in south Joburg. I know you can't directly compare municipal results to national results, but ANC was well under 50 percent in 2021 (36% percent according to News24). Gauteng, more so than even KZN, will not have an ANC majority government in 2024.

I think he's hard at work setting himself up for a fall. Time will tell.
Problem is it seems people never learn, you can never fail is you deliver services that people can touch and feel, while others are shouting about impressive budget of big figures, Panyaza is in touch with the electorate, he does make noise about budgets he delivers services he delivers jobs.

People are tired of listening to politicians talking, they want to see action, and Panyaza is delivering on that.

I 100% applaud the "jobs" portion, but are these sustainable long term jobs or populist jobs to try and make things "better" but achieving nothing in the grand scheme of things?

Ultimately, grand scheme of any political party is to attain power, so, if ANC retains power on its own in 2024, that is the best outcome for them.
