Why did the DA accept her into their ranks knowing she was a past member of the PAC? The PAC were/are even more radical than the EFF.

Yeah, I think that article just makes the sundayworld paint themselves as the moegoes of the week, not the DA.

Officially, social democracy.

In practice, just Aunty Pat and some of her friends who left the DA in a huff and now function as best buddies for the ANC.

She headed the ID at the time and the ID merged with the DA at the start of the Zuma years.

That's why.

In 2010, the DA and ID formalized an agreement in which the ID would merge into the DA by 2014. This was prompted in part by the ID's disappointing result in the 2009 general election. As per the agreement, ID ceased to exist at the local level after the 2011 municipal elections with ID members running as DA candidates. DA won a large outright majority in the election, and ID leader Patricia de Lille, who had defeated Plato in an earlier internal election, became the new mayor. The party extended its lead even further to win a two-thirds majority of the seats on the City of Cape Town council in the 2016 municipal elections, and De Lille was thus sworn in to serve a second term

Nope, that was not what I was meaning at all. She set up the GOOD party, which she imitated was going to challenge the DA in the Western Cape (provincial elections) and Cape Town (in municipal elections). It never came close to either of those goals because she confused her personal popularity with that of the DA. Her party achieved less than 5% in Cape Town despite her styling herself as the voice the Coloureds community. That's pathetic, no matter how much you spin it.

Reaching highs never seen before in the WC for the DA, if this poll is true. I'm inherently suspicious of the EFF being ahead of the ANC, however. The EFF just doesn't have an easily identifiable base support down here. There is no large mine community, for example. And even wards surrounding UCT and Stellenbosch University vote DA.
