Key takeaways here:
  • The entire DA GP leadership supports John.
  • Substantial numbers from JHB and TSH caucuses support John (the former is probably a painful subject for Mpho).
@TheChamp Seems like they acceded to Solly's demand, seeing that he's endorsed Johnno.
This is still my opinion, take note of the bolded part. Msimanga is in no position to make demands to John.

Maybe he doesn't realise it but he is in no position to bargain, there is nothing he can do that would prevent Steenhuisen from being re-elected, at most it would feel nice and legit for Steenhuisen to have an endorsement from him as a Gauteng leader, it will give the credibility of him being elected through popular support.

But he can keep his endorsement and Steenhuisen is still going to be elected, it's even possible that he would end up giving the endorsement without any input from John, to secure his own future in the party, have you forgotten how Madikizela always pretended to be a big shot in WC when it came to leadership elections?

Let's stop pretending like this is going to be a nail biting, tough contest, John and Zille are going to come back, unless any one of them decides they've had enough and not contest for the positions.

Right man for the job who screwed up coalitions in metros, leading a party that's relying on coalitions in the 2024 National Elections.
You could blame John for many things, but not for everything

The oke - Pappas
Mphophomeni - One of the townships/towns/areas in uMngeni.

I.e. if he can win their support without them protesting, he is a national hero according to @Oldfut
My idea of its history. It is south of Howick and back in the day where many people who worked at Dunlop lived. There was a prolonged strike (politics + workers grumbles) in apartheid times still and eventually the factory closed. It is open in some form now I think but Mphophomeni remains heavily politicised and plenty "protests" there (as well as being a sh1thole running into Midmar Dam); ANC or EFF methinks. Not easy for DA there.

From today's Sunday Times. Was funny to read. I especially liked the meme about the well-known John vs Beaumont story arc from myBB he put in there.

Also liked him basically saying "No, that guy from JHB, he's the proxy, but not me, couldn't be me".
It is hilarious seeing that the only reason he's Mayor is thanks to the same playbook ANC and EFF followed in JHB. I remember that shortly after he got thrown out of the coalition, the UF said he was collaborating with ANC and friends, and he denied this. But conveniently, a while later, he proves them right by being the ANC coalition's candidate.

Maybe he started conniving with the ANC and the EFF when the DA led coalition started conniving against him? He beat them hands down at their own game.

One thing I found odd about the cabinet reshuffle thing, the people who are saying the cabinet reshuffle does not matter are the same people who are moaning the most that Cyril is taking his sweet time.
I guess people are just fed up at things taking so long when they were announced a month ago. There's also a bit of hope that this time it's a good reshuffle, but that's like believing in the tooth fairy.

Like the state of disaster declared a month ago, what has been done?

But if you insists it's not going to make an inch of a difference why does it matter? Not convinced in your own conviction?

I do understand those who are hopeful of something being impatient, I just don't understand the other group.

As Mad magazine noted - you can't win with a bigot.

The problem is the delay after delay, excuse after excuse, consultation after consultation, instead of just announcing the new cabinet and being done with it (Add in the recent "I'm sick, yet I got to an ankole convention" bit).

And no, this doesn't mean I'm hoping for Rama to "do the right thing" or whatever. I just want him to announce the cabinet so that we know who the new overlords are until 2024.
