Is he wrong. Is the area he refers to better or worse off. Has it gotten worse since the 94 or only during the brief period the DA coalition were in charge. The area falls under an ANC councilor, what has he been doing all this time except collecting a salary.

There was blatant racism in Phoenix, lets be honest with ourselves. Some of the okes from Phoenix have admitted as much in the book written by Kaveel Singh on this.

On the one hand, you get okes trying to say Indians are racist and pointing towards Ghandis attitudes towards black people and on the other, they will say the Phoenix situation was not racist, such is the logic of the Mybroederbond.

How about a dose of reality for you.

There was massive and blatant racism in Phoenix on BOTH sides. There is also history in that interaction between Indians and Blacks, and the Indians were not going to allow themselves to be slaughtered again.

Apparently people who supported the NP were actively encouraging the riots according to historical accounts and did not act to curb them yet there are no ill attitudes towards those people. You have to ask yourself why.

Oh ok, so it was just politics, that makes the events of 1949 all ok and can't be used to even vaguely understand what happened in Phoenix then... Gotcha.

What the DA is lacking is some tact around this in terms of managing the politics and putting a positive spin on it after their blunder in the aftermath of this, but they are right about one thing, the EFF is zooming on Phoenix because the racial thing presents a perfect opportunity for them to pursue a populist rhetoric, they were very much in support of the anarchy and violence, why are they now concerned about the dead?

They did not care and were hoping people would be killed by the police so that they can use that to force Ramaphosa to step down, when that did not happen they quickly found an opportunity in the Phoenix deaths.

AFAIK, only Phoenix had houses burned by the blacks during the July riots.

In eThekwini (and KZN as well) the EFF need something that they can "rally" around really... they're floundering to some level in the city and run the very real risk of sliding backwards from their current level of support.
