Unfortunately, some people take him too seriously and will still treat him like a person who acts within reason. The IEC leadership don't seem like very capable people, so I wonder if they can handle this.

IEC and Cyril already stated that announcing final results at 17:20. This was after Zuma little tantrum.

The IEC is not perfect but they will handle this just fine, they will listen to the objections and deal with them, if he is not happy he will take it to court, so I don't see much of a problem on that front. I also trust that our judiciary are capable of dealing with Zuma, they all know his tactics by now, they might not say it out loud but I am sure they have enough of him.

It is on the part of law enforcement that I foresee a problem, there is still no indication that they are on top of things, they are sluggish and always a step behind, SANDF is useless since they have to wait to be deployed so that means everything is going to be reactive instead of moving in and kicking the door while someone is still dreaming about blocking the road.

Personally I think MK only has influence in KZN. So Cyril should just deploy the army to there ahead of time.

I doubt that is a concern, at the end of the day the army without intelligence is very useless, they can stand there with their big guns but they can't use them.

What I have been wondering about, with the experience of the previous riots and knowing that as soon as things get out of control it is difficult to get them back in control, would a provincial state of emergency be a viable option at the first sign of trouble? Close everything down and deal with the problem?

Sure it would be a massive inconvenience to all law abiding citizens of the province but was that not a better option the first time around compared to the massive devastation? I just feel that the very freedom of movement that is our right is the same things the lowlifes capitalize on, curtail that for a couple of days, if they can't congregate, they can't loot.

I am sure some goody two shoes would run to the courts and might even be successful but would that be not a sacrifice to take for government and all law abiding citizens?

It definitely should be a concern if you deploy a few thousand heavily armed and trained individuals to quell potential violence into an area only to find a good chunk of them are loyal to the group and person you're trying to quell.

I think a state of emergency would ultimately play into Jacob's hands and prove what he is saying to the masses and backfire badly.

I say it's not a concern because I don't believe our army harbours any tribal loyalty, not to Zuma or anyone, there has never been any indication to that effect at any point, remember it was raised before when Zuma came under pressure to resign, apparently he was supposed to unleash the army on us because they were loyal to him because of MK blah blah blah.

So I have no reason to doubt the professionalism of the army, they were able to keep it together from the handover in 1994, when Zuma was kicked out, nothing is going to change now.

Fair enough on the state of emergency, I also feel that it has the potential of giving him credibility, so maybe better intelligence and being more proactive is still the best way.
 
This is also not the first time Zuma has threatened violence or even a coup. Remember when he got recalled from the presidency he went on SABC and threatened a coup. Stop treating him with kids gloves, make him really feel prosecuted by the state for his crimes.
