The SA Politics Thread Part 6

Many KZN ANC councillors are going to see how well the MK did in their wards and will defect in the LGE to save their jobs.

This will further strengthen uBaba in the short term. uBaba is back- a masterclass in African politics- give him that. Unhinged, corrupt, probably senile but you have to admire his political capabilities. After all the sh*t he caused in SA- it seems Zuma will go to the grave having the last laugh.

It's not only tribalism- if that was the case than the IFP which is the most tribalistic party in KZN would have faired better. It's the Zuma effect on the population there. Of course, there are shady characters in the background- but they also needed Zuma.

Let's see how great and lavish your overseas life is, spare some change for us serfs here. Let's see who the beach rakers are here  ... Come on my boy

i warned you yesterday to keep the hell away from my manicured beach !!

trespass, and you'll be having gentleman callers with too few teeth and way too many tattoos stopping by for tea & scones with clotted cream

Back in the MK? One of my gripes is that people like her and other undesirable and questionable characters like Tornado Veteran seems to be hanging on for some odd reason.
They're trying to play every side for whatever they can to make sure they keep getting paid.

I will be surprised if she doesn't defect. She is a Zuma loyalist.

I'd be surprised if she doesn't defect as well... Her job and paycheck will rely on it. She won't have a seat on the anc side in Kzn parliament.
All politicians will.

It's about the paycheck. Even DA people will easily go over to the PA if they saw an electoral decline.

For sure.. But with someone like zandile it's a guarantee..

It's also her only vaguely viable option to stay out of jail.

As a DA voter I would not mind a DA/ANC coalition, but it would signal the decline of both parties. In the short term it might provide stability and even growth but long term it would only make the EFF/MK stronger. They would use this as a stick to beat the ANC with calling them sellouts to white people, WMC, Stellenbosch etc. People in the ANC and black voters would see this also as them selling out. I can see many ANC members defecting to MK. Even though it pains to say it, but a strong ANC is needed to keep the wolves at bay. It's awful to think of but maybe an ANC/EFF coalition might be a better option? In the short it would be a shock but maybe placating Malema with a few cabinet positions would de-radicalize him? Incumbency might make him back down from his ideas. This would also kill the EFF in the long run as this tends to happen with smaller parties who join bigger ones.

Does this make sense or am I being very naive?

He’s already drunk with power, he’d become a full blown dictator.

You don't placate people like Julius. You defang them and put them in their place.

If you want to know the outcome of placating people like Julius and even Jacob. Go see what Appeasement as an approach did for Europe

It's not going to happen. An EFF and ANC coalition is way more likely. I think people should start preparing for SA's collapse.

You are very right, but we now have proof that the EFF is going nowhere slowly, the MK looks scary because it just started and jumped to third position but they also have a ceiling.

The bottom line in this election is still the fact that the ANC is failing to get their supporters to go out and vote, they probably think they are punishing it but all they do is to open the door wide for the MK. Their disgruntled voters are still there, they did note vote for the DA, they did not vote for the EFF, they abstained.

My feeling is that the majority of the country is sober enough to see Zuma for what he is, so he is still by and large a KZN party as the results show, so I don't think people will fall for whatever he is selling, but not voting is equivalent to evil triumphing when good men do nothing.

When Zuma was removed and later when Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who Zuma endorsed as next president but failed there were many current senior ANC leaders, some publicly, some privately who were not happy and now will be looking for Rama's removal and cosier ties to MK.

As much as the DA would like to group the EFF and MK in the conniving, dangerous black people category- who would be in a 'Doomsday coalition'- I personally don't see them able to work together.

MK is more cult of Zuma, Zulu, older comrades. EFF is younger, broader appeal (heck they even run the SRC of some Western Cape Uni's) with the cult of Malema. I think Malema will do better in future elections as his electorate matures.

Lots of varsity students are in the middle of writing exams and weren't bothered to vote, or aren't registered in the right VD. Many of them are EFF voters. Some of those young EFF voters will also become outspoken, qualified young politicians who will strengthen the EFF- so I wouldn't be too worried if was Malema.
