People now making excuses for Renaldo and saying **** like "out of context". That's exactly what Malema and SAHRC say about Shoot the Boer.
You guys defending Renaldo are exactly the same hypocrites as the eff and hrc.
Disagree. And I'm not defending Renaldo per se, I'm defending against hypocrisy - doesn't matter who's the recipient of it.
Firstly, "Boer" as far as I'm aware is used as derogatory in the context of that song and also in the discourse of the racists today. Like saying "White" or "Black" with a disgusted tone or deliberate enemy image.
Secondly, shoot the "collective" is never acceptable. Not back then, not today. Since Boer children exist and existed. Shoot the oppressor is more acceptable, not shoot the Boer. There should be no room for identity politics in a democracy.
Thirdly, it is insensitive to those who would take it literally and insensitive to those who may have been attacked/murdered for their identity.
Now if there's an interpretation issue on the above, such that "Boer" does not mean the collective, many do not seem to care for clarifying that.
Where I would argue that Renaldo may be crossing a line is using the K word even as hyperbole or under context. But then this isn't racist, it's offensive (even in the context perhaps unnecessarily so). That's a different thing. I've never once had a need to utter that word, it doesn't even cross my mind. Yeah some could argue offense is taken not given, but still it's a bit crass and low class IMO.
