That claim isn't completely corroborated. Some say they stormed the place, others said they were there peacefully.

Just like Marikana, they opted to mow down civilians.

Go through the events of the day objectively. Had the police been proactive and handled the situation competently, they would have perhaps avoided the bloodbath.


But blame should also be on politicians.

Well, in Marikana, the cops waited until the axe wielding bullet proof mob was almost on top of them before they started shooting.

Stop trying to whitewash the apartheid governments role in this. Sharpeville is one of the biggest stains in this country’s history. Black people at the time were just trying to cultivate their own identity and sense of being. It was called the Black Consciousness Movement led by Steve Biko.

Mandela is no more a terrorist than Botha, Viljoen and Vorster. You’ll never be able to convince me otherwise.

You seem to have the facts a little muddled. Those were the prime targets. The ones you are referring to were few and far between.

In Italy for instance, the position has to be occupied by someone non-aligned, and voted in by parliament. It's not possible in the current cycle because Cyril won't just give up the presidency. However I am in favour of such a system. However, as I mentioned before the Italian president has far too few responsibilities. The government and State should be completely separated.
