The SA Politics Thread Part 6

That question has been answered time and time again, it's during the time you were throwing tantrums and telling everyone to not speak to me because you are not.

Ku late ngoku, I have no time for your questions.

Evasive as ever. A lot has happened in politics since that time and I wondered if your views had changed since then. I wonder if you were viewing the same reality that everyone else was viewing. I wondered, if you could see the writing on the wall, let alone read it.

I wonder no more.

Just know, when ANC falls below their majority next week - which is pretty much a guarantee now. Please don't tell us you were just trolling. It's clear you're not.

I'll make sure to send you some condolences next Thursday.

He's barely kept control of the NEC since he took over. A big enough loss will ensure he's history
He's as good as gone. There's no way they lose by just enough to govern with Al-Jamahaha. He thought that rushing to sign NHI just before elections would be his saving grace. Must be part of the long game.

People should start bracing for incoming President Mashatile...

And promise not to be a baby when the inevitable happens, you will look at him and say, My President.

You assume they think that far
ANC are absolute retards when it comes to running the country and basic governance.

However they do understand power dynamic in politics well, and know how to play the game. They know how to pick a popular person to be the face of the party. They did it with Zuma (who ended up being a disaster), and again with Ramaphosa.
Ntuli said the party was expecting another internal poll by the end of the month as an indicator of whether Ramaphosa remained the most popular figure in politics. He said the previous poll — which the M&G understands to have been presented to the national executive committee (NEC) late last year — indicated that Ramaphosa was more popular than the ANC.

“If you look at the polls that have gone on, which we’ve seen throughout the year, and last year, the president was polling slightly above the ANC as an organisation. I don’t know what will be the situation in the poll we are expecting now,” Ntuli said.

...

In 2019, Ntuli’s predecessor Fikile Mbalula admitted that the ANC used Ramaphosa’s popularity to regain its majority, albeit marginally. Mbalula said the ruling party would have received 40% of the vote in that year’s national election, had Ramaphosa not won the party’s Nasrec leadership election against Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma in 2017
https://mg.co.za/politics/2024-02-1...ored 68% from ANC,and 33% from EFF supporters.

Sure, they could toss Ramaphosa under the bus and get in a leader who will dish out cabinet positions to MK and the EFF. Except the next election will be absolute kittens for them. Not only is the Demographic shift really working against them (old people in rural areas who see them as a liberation party are dying off), they would lose the last remaining popularity in urban areas with the younger vote.

Prudent leadership for the ANC would be to recognise the writing is on the wall for being a single party of government. The electoral system in SA effectively incentivises the destruction of large political parties.

I am going on what Frans Cronje is going off, and he recons the most stable coalition in South Africa will be middle class which is the DA's turf, and the aspirant middle class on the urban fringe (Basically people who want to work hard to get into the middle class, instead of stealing their way in) , which is the ANC's main base. This is a separate demographic from the communists and race nationalists like MK and EFF who want to destroy the middle class to make them equal with the poor.

Dropping policies like BEE and affirmative action has zero impact in this aspirant middle class demographic because they want to get into the middle class by their own efforts. Ditto for land expropriation and NHI.

Getting to that point will be difficult as the ANC will need to purge the race nationalists and communists from the party before it will be able to work well with the DA. Nevertheless, there are plenty of baby steps that can be taken before getting to that point.

A basic confidence and supply arrangement, that simply just has a more balanced budget as a concession for the DA, is a very easy, low hanging piece of fruit for the ANC to adopt. No need to have petty cabinet squabbles and horse trading.

A reality the ANC will have to get comfortable with after next week.

If the ANC falls below 43% - they will need EFF + MK / Small party.

EFF might demand too much, like JuJu for DP. I'd be surprised if he doesn't demand that - and for Cyril to go. I think the ANC would then most likely want to work with the DA?

I actually don't know if Julius will want the DP position, its historically the place politicians disappear really.

Even Paul is much of a non-entity in that space like David as well.

That looks like a perfect position depending on the agenda mos?

Julius is nobodys fool, he wouldn't want a position that would see him end up in some weird political wilderness, he wants to be front and centre and get the Presidents role in the future.

How would the DP position stop him from being President? He is not an ANC person like Mabuza or President Shipokosa, there's no reason why he should be in political wilderness, he won't be bound by ANC rules, he can literally collect his salary and benefits every month and go and do EFF things every weekend.

But I also don't think he would want the position, albeit for different reasons, he would probably send Floyd there to be entangled in corruption and then fire him or use that against him so that he doesn't have any competition.

He can do EFF things, but the ANC as a President can put him in a political wilderness as DP and also being "leader of government business' would torpedo him very quickly.

Not sure how I feel about this one. ANC taking a massive dive. Down to 40% and DA as high as 27% MK over 13%...

Something changed to cause the drop. **** funny if it was NHI.
This is at 60% turnout... Which is IMO one of the more likely turnouts we'll see (either that or 62%).

Wonderful for DA, would be great if that would come to pass.

I'm willing to bet it is actually NHI, since what else has ANC done recently that could've triggered that drop? And NHI is facing almost unanimous opposition except from ANC fans.
